Dark Kelpie Nights

He’s standing in the shadows. Unlike the other guys.
He sees me staring at him and winks.
I blush and turn away.
He has lovely dark hair, falling down in waves.
His face is as pale as chalk.
But such a lovely sight.
I’m walking to wards him as he beckons me closer.
Soon we are outside. The party well behind.
He’s leading me to the pier. Dark water swirls below.
I look at him frightened. He’s eyes are bright with excitement.
He holds out his hand. I take. And together we jump into the freezing water.
The air is knocked out of my lungs. I struggle for the surface.
I feel arms wrap around me. Holding me down.
I look at him.
His eyes are white like the moon. His hair swirls around him.
A curious, almost loving look is in his eyes.
His arms hug me tight to his chest.
I cannot breathe down here. He seems completely at ease.
My vision is dying. Blurring slowly.
I think I am dying.
I dig my nails into his arms. Trying to break free.
It had no effect. He continues to watch me die. Happiness on his face.
I realize, as the last of my air leaves my lungs.
It was a trap.
He’s not human.
A creature of the water holds me.
It is in his nature to kill.
As the darkness takes me, I watch his shape change.
He becomes a water beast, resembling a dark horse.
The kelpie watched in delight. Another victim. Another death.
Something he shall never know.
