What would you do if the love of your life was your mistress? Would you run or choose for a life full of love with the same man that broke up your marriage? [571 words]
I lifted my eyes up from the floor, soon finding his gaze, my soft green eyes drowning in his blue stormy ones. He stood right in front of me, squeezing his eyes shut as he looked for any signs of fear in my eyes. I stayed calm, my eyes never leaving his. It took him only a moment to grab my wrists and pull me inside.
His arms wrapped around my waist and his lips crashed desperately onto mine. All the anger that had been showing in his eyes were now evident in the needy kisses his hard lips placed on my soft ones. “Stop.” I whispered in his mouth. “Stop, please.” I pleaded, pushing him off me with my hands.
His surprised face shocked me and I frowned at his expression. “I can’t.” I explained, carefully. I took another step back, but he quickly took a step towards me again. “This is not where I came here for.” I said.
“Where did you come for?” He asked, smiling gently at me. He took another step forward and tilted my chin up to make me look at him directly. “Tell me.”
“I came to say goodbye,” I said as soon as he let go of me again and I could focus back on the floor tile again. “He won’t forgive me, so I can just as well go.” I said eventually.
“Where are you going?” He asked, worry in his eyes. He had a firm grip on my wrist, so I couldn’t possible go.
“Just, somewhere,” I said, avoiding his eyes. Every time I looked in his eyes, I couldn’t stop myself. I just had no self control.
“Please,” He pleaded, on the edge of tears. “Stay with me please.” He said a little calmer.
“I can’t,” I said, finally meeting his sad eyes. This was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I loved him, I loved him so much that it hurt to tell him this. “I’m sorry,” I said, shaking my head to stop the tears from falling.
I saw him clenching his teeth and he just looked at me for a while, until he spoke up again. “I love you,” He said. The words lingered in the air, making it painfully hard to breathe. He had never said that before, not once.
I wanted to walk away, get away from his grasp, but he pulled me back. I flinched as he pulled me to him.
“I just can’t stop it. I love you. You’re the love of my life and I couldn’t live without you,” He said, not caring to lower his voice. I was still standing so close next to him that the words echoed in my ears.
“I’m sorry,” I said again as I finally released myself from his arms and quickly stormed out of the house.
I walked back to my car, tears flowing freely. I glanced and saw him following me. I started running, quickly opening my car door and stepped in the warmth of my car.
When I looked back for the last time, I saw him standing in the middle of his driveway, screaming towards me, pleading me not to go.
I shook my head, indicating that I really should go. I already messed up so many lives and I loved him too much to ruin his.
“I’m sorry,” I said one more time just above a whisper. “I love you…”
