The Thorn And The Rose
The thorn and the rose
He gave the one red rose, to secure his love he pricked his finger and her finger with the thorn.
And they mixed the blood together as if this was to be their secret ceremony.
Natures love was at their feet. But it was the battle of their parents that they had to beat.
How prickly thorn held high the beauty he loved? To protect it as if in love
He was like the thorn, and she was like the beautiful rose. For the moment they were free,
Like wild horses at sea. They were free and they were fleeing.
Love they thought was a funny thing,
First their parents loved them to bits,
With the love he had,
It was the love he had found,
But when they found out,
They did not like it one bit,
The cast did not match,
Sam could not understand,
His girl friends parents were out to kill him.
He gave her a red rose every day.
She held it to her heart,
And closed her eyes,
The smell was so nice.
They fell asleep on the coast.
Until they came and caught them,
Unable to defend, they slit both the loversí necks.
They were left for the tides to come in,
To wash away the shame,
As the tides rolled,
The single rose floated out to sea,
Like the rose, Lariat floated out to sea
Like the thorn, heart broken,
Their lost souls wondered out to sea.

"Nice lil'story, but the 'slitting necks' part is a bit too gory for this poem, you should try something more subtle if it's a gentle love story." -- Anon.
"Annon, Thank for reading, But one must realize even in this day and age there is a lot of gory stories around about Love when love is not love as it should be......We all like to read about Love as it is love but sadly even in this day and age Love is not what it seem for some people!...... I hope you can understand hence why this poem is dramatic. Thank for you comments - much appreciated." -- Amy, London, England.
