When Night Falls Meghan L Bell
The full moon rose high in the pitch black of night, casting ghastly shadows over the two muscular figures standing in the clearing. They were in a forest, tall trees surrounding them, isolating them from the rest of the world. It was dark all around them, and the only movement that could be detected was the slight rustle of leaves as a light wind brushed past the trees, and the soft song of crickets chirping somewhere in the distance.
Of course, the two figures standing alone on this dark night were not just two ordinary men. No, anything but that. One had distinctive brown hair layering his body, exceedingly sharp canines and claws, and lustrous eyes that would send chills right through your very bones. The other had a terrifying pair of fangs, long, black curly hair, and implausible strength. The only thing that these two had in common was that they were both creatures of the night. One was a werewolf, the other was a vampire; and they were not very happy.
A low growl escaped the werewolfs throat, and his hair stood high on his back. His paws padded at the ground anxiously, his teeth bared, ready for a fight. His eyes gleamed dangerously, and seemed to shine from the faint light of the moon resting in the sky above them.
The vampire was only slightly less composed. Okay, so he was a lot less composed. He was merely standing in front of the snarling werewolf, his face completely emotionless. The full-length black trench coat he was wearing was billowing wildly in the wind. His long, dark hair was lifted off his shoulders, and was violently whipping around his head, and his hands rested comfortably at his sides. He knew he was going to win this fight. Call him cocky if you wish, but it was the truth.
They just stared at one another for quite some time, as if each one was daring the other to make the first move. The werewolf broke first. He jumped out at the vampire, snarling madly, and swinging his sharp-clawed paws around blindly. The vampire reacted instantly, reaching out with one hand and wrapping his fingers around the werewolfs throat, easily batting away the werewolfs striking paw with his other hand. The werewolf struggled under the grasp of the vampire, continuing to swing his deadly claws around, hoping to hit a target. He got lucky, and one of his blows landed on the back of the vampires head.
The vampire scowled in surprise at being hit, and threw the werewolf violently to the ground. He reached up and touched the wound that had just been laid upon him, and then snarled angrily at the warm feel of the blood beginning to flow from where he had been hit. The werewolf tried desperately to push himself off the ground, but before he could, the vampire was on him again. The vampire balled his hand into a fist, and swung at the werewolf, striking him across the face. The werewolf howled, sending the thunderous call up into the hopelessly dark sky, scaring a few of the winged onlookers out of their trees and into the night. The vampire uttered a noise that sounded more like a growl then anything else as he reached out and grabbed the werewolf around the neck again.
The werewolf again struggled, not wanting to lose this fight, and was able to kick the vampire off of him. The werewolf quickly pushed himself to his feet while the vampire struggled to do the same. The werewolf rushed at the vampire, and the vampire hissed violently as the werewolf pounced on him. The vampire reached out and grabbed the werewolf paws, attempting to hold them safely at his sides as they rolled around on the ground, sticky pine needles becoming entangled in their hair, or fur in the werewolfs case. The vampire continued to struggle underneath the werewolf, before ultimately being able to pull himself on top of him. He held the werewolfs large paws at his side with his knees, and wrapped his strong fingers around the werewolfs neck for one last time. The werewolf fought back with all his might, maybe getting a few cuts and bruises on the vampire as he struggled, but to no avail. The vampire was too strong for the young werewolf. The werewolf continued to courageously fight, his energy slowly dieing away before his breathless body grew limp.
The victorious vampire stood up, nonchalantly brushing away the dirt and pine needles from his coat, a small grin breaking on his lips. He turned and stared at his beaten foe, and for a second, almost felt sorry for him. He was a young one, hence the way he was able to defeat him so quickly and painlessly. Another night, the vampire came out of a fight much like this one, except that his adversary was much larger and wiser then the one lying dead in front of him, and had come out victoriously with a piece of his arm missing. However, that is a whole other story. As the vampire thought of other times, his grin grew larger. He raised his head and looked at the sky, watching the dark clouds drift by the full moon before bringing his gaze back upon his fallen foe. He bowed his head to him, and started to walk away. Another night, another victory.
