Confessions Of A Perfect Prom Dress
La Carlotta

I was what they call the perfect prom dress. Deep emerald green with gold lacing. Oh yes, I was the perfect prom dress.
So perfect, in fact, that so many young girls flocked to where I hung in the Juniors section of Profitts that I lost count.
I was carted off to the dressing room hundreds of times, and each one was different.
Some girls were too big to wear me, some too small. Some thought that my cut didnt flatter them (though of course I knew it was them that didnt flatter my cut, not the other way around). And some I fit perfectly on, but their mothers would take one glance at my price tag and scream. Some girls thought they looked absolutely gorgeous in me (though they didnt), but would find another that they look absolutely more gorgeous in and leave me in the fitting room. Some smelled bad, and it always turned out that these were the ones whose mothers were going to let them buy me. But I managed to squeeze myself in enough that it would be too small for them to breath. So, reluctantly, they had left me behind as well.
So many girls, but none so far that I truly regretted parting with. Until Julie.
She was tall, with red pale freckled skin and a mess of wild red hair that fell past her shoulders. The moment I saw her, I knew she would look simply breathtaking in me. I was overjoyed as she picked me out and took me to the fitting room. Once inside, my suspicions were confirmed. She looked magnificent with me on.
But it was with a sad heart that she gently put me back on my hanger. She knew that she couldnt come up with the $84 to make me hers forever.
Even now as I go to the prom on another girl, I know that Julie was the only one that caused me pain to part with.
