A short story.
She was a tall blonde woman, took care of it all, the best agent on the force. A dramatic change, still the best on the force, but that was a bad thing. When using what you’ve been taught for the wrong reasons it turns into a nasty mistake. Her name is Melanie Michaels. Melanie wouldn’t be back until the case was solved. She’ll be undercover known as Sydney Jenkins until further notice. Now she needs a new nickname, she is hiding from her undercover identity: Sydney. Her whole team, everyone that knew her as Sydney is after her now. We’ll call her Lady, like Lady and the Tramp. The sly canine in the musical. Lady is in big trouble; she is running from the FBI of the USA.
She lay amongst mounds of papers on her desk. Her office was her lair. All her patients and their problems were the furthest thing from her mind. She was to busy thinking about other stuff, stuff that always floated in her way of concentrating when she was really trying to focus. She was thinking about Orlando, they USED to be friends or at least she tried to convince herself of that, she tried to assure herself that she was more important than worrying about him, he had not done much for her anyway she thought, as she drifted off to sleep.
There in front of the small vine covered cottage he stood. He was a dark shadow. Just like everyone else, he was number one in his book. No matter how much Lady meant to him, he had to take care of himself first. He stepped into the freshly painted door with the number thirteen overhead etched into tiles. The first thing he noticed was the peaceful warmth. He hated it, hated being in a cozy place doing something bad. Well, he did have to save himself right?
Then something made him stop, he remembered the words, ‘the bride’s eyes,’ Lady had told him to take the money behind the bride’s eyes if it ever got him in trouble. He peered around the front room looking for something that would have to do with bride’s eyes. Then it hit him like a storm. Yes, this was it, he had found what he was looking for. Slowly he slid the newlywed’s picture off the nail, careful not to damage it. This had to be done precisely. He placed the picture softly on the floor and went to work. He rubbed his eyes looking at the buttons on the vault door. The vault was behind Lady’s wedding picture over her fireplace. What a clever woman he thought as he rubbed his eyes from exhaustion. It had to be at least two in the morning.
He punched the code in and slid the vault door open with ease. There lied before him probably millions and millions of dollars. After admiring the stacks and stacks of money he scooped them into his pack and through his card in the vault. He locked the vault door back up and scrammed before anyone realized he was even there.
The next morning Lady came into her front room to see what all the racket was about at two in the morning. Lady laughed when she saw the picture on the floor and all the money gone in the vault. She took the card of her good friends out of the vault and burnt it in the fireplace.
She had no need to call him or ever here from her old friend (ex-partner on the force) again. She had everything she wanted and he would be put in prison for retrieveing fake money to save him.
Orlando flew on an early flight back to the US that same morning he had paid a visit to this ex-partner’s house. He did not have to tell anyone where Lady was as long as he got the money back to the FBI that day, however; he would be released from the force, but he would be safe from imprisonment. If things went wrong though, there were no second chances, he was a goner.
What could possibly go wrong though? He stole the money back from Lady to give back and he was home free. Orlando showed up to the Security Office at about 8:00 that morning and left the bag of money sitting on a desk of somebody who was suppose to take care of it. That was the deal, he left the money there and left the building never to return.
Three days later, Orlando’s home was raided and he was arrested for the false money he had given to the government. He wasn’t aware of his crime until the day he showed up in the courthouse for sentencing. Orlando was found guilty for turning in two million fake dollars to the government to assure safety for him and his best friend Melanie Michaels. Orlando was sentenced for life in prison.
Of course, he was completely manipulated by the government and his best friend who lives in a little house in Costa Rica as a psychologist happily ever after.
