"When I was a five my father was killed by his mistress".
"Memaw what�s a mistress"?
"It�s a lady that seduces a man that is helpless".
"Oh. So what happened to her when she was caught"?
"They put her to death in a federal prison".
"Then what makes this story so good"?
"What happened 20 years later when your Memaw was pregnant with your mother".
"What"?
"I was walking home from the store when I started to feel sharp pains. I realized my water had broken".
I started screaming for help but no one could hear me. I saw a car going in the opposite direction and I tried to flag it down but it wouldn�t stop. I screamed after it but they just kept driving. When I turned around a woman was shuffling me into her car and then she was driving and before I knew it we were at the hospital. I screamed as your mother was born.
When it was all over I finally took a good look at the woman that had driven me to the hospital. She looked like the woman that had killed my father.
I screamed, "get away from me you murderer".
"Are you talking to me"?
"You murdered my father"!
"What are you taking about"?
"You murdered my father 20 years ago"!
"Okay, how is that possible if I�m only 19"?
"Prove it".
"Here�s my driver�s license".
"You�re telling the truth. But how is it that you look exactly like the woman that was gassed when I was only a mere child"?
"Well she couldn�t have been my mother or grandmother. She couldn�t have been an aunt. I don�t have the slightest clue".
She was the perfect twin of the woman that had killed my father and we didn�t have the slightest idea how she had become to look the way she did.
"I heard screaming all the way down the hall, is everything okay in here"?
"Yes, it was just a case mistaken identity".
"Okay".
"Let�s see if we can figure this out".
"Wait a minute. This could be- No it couldn�t be".
"You�re talking in circles. What is it you�re trying to get at".
"What if you were born to be her successor".
"That�s impossible".
"True".
"But it could be that she�s my past life".
"What do you mean"?
"It�s where someone dies to soon so they take on the life of another person to full fill the rest of their life".
"But that would mean that her soul wandered around the earth at least a year before she found you".
"But that�s impossible. Unless she lived in your heart".
"What"?
"She had to have gone somewhere".
"But why in me"?
"Maybe she liked you".
Now she was talking in circles. I didn�t understand why this woman was meeting me or even why she stayed with me while I was having my baby. Most people would have split after they dropped me off. But not her. She was more stubborn than most people. Maybe she recognized me from her past life.
"Why did you pick me up off the side of the road anyways"?
"Instinct that you were in trouble".
"What instinct was that"?
"I couldn�t tell you. I saw you yelling to the other car then I realized that you were in trouble so I picked you up".
"Well I�m gonna go to sleep if you�ll excuse me".
"Of course. I guess this is goodbye for a long-time or maybe even forever".
"I guess so".
"Well..."
"What�s your name anyways"?
"Michelle".
"That�s a pretty name".
"Thanks".
"Thank you for coming to my rescue".
"You�re welcome. I never asked what you named your baby"?
"Shelly".
"That�s short for what"?
"Michelle".
Michelle smiled and left the room with a slight smirk. When I thought about it for a while I remembered that I had had a heavy feeling on my heart for about a year after my father died. Maybe Michelle was right, there is a possibility that the woman that had killed my father spirit had been living in my heart that year until this Michelle was born.
After I got out of the hospital I researched the last woman that was put to death by gas. Her name was Michelle Reynolds. Then I looked up the reason she was put to death. Beside her name it had a small paragraph.
Michelle Reynolds has been put to death because she killed a man by a hitting him with her car and then tried to cover it up by stuffing his body into a dumpster. This man was known as Henry Jacobs. He was found in a Dumpster 300 miles away from his hometown Hardinsburg. One Michelle Fredricks discovered the body. The coroner said that he�d been dead for a good 59 hours before the body was discovered.
I noticed that every person involved in the case of her fathers� murder had the name Michelle. I then thought about my mothers� name and my middle name. My mothers� name was Michelle Jacobs. And my full name was Jessica Michelle Jacobs. I then thought it was weird that a woman named Michelle had picked me up when I was in my time of need. It was almost like Michelle Reynolds was trying to make it up to me through this Michelle.
"I researched and tried to find my mysterious Michelle that saved my life and your mothers, but I read in the newspaper that the woman died on her way out of the hospital by a hit and run driver. She was struck and then died almost instantly. I found out that her last name was Fredricks".
"Memaw what happened to mommy"?
"She died when she was hit by a car sweetie".
"I mean after that".
"Oh. She was then found in a dumpster 300 miles away from here".
