Mother Earth (Nae) Rowan Davies
On a dark afternoon in the dead of winter, one tired old lady looks down upon the world and thinks: That’s it. This is too much. They’ve all got the wrong idea. And she sets about destroying the ones that took her work for granted.
As each person dies at their desk or wheel or post, a spiritual mist descends over the world. She watches as entire cities collapse into themselves under their own strain. She wipes a small tear away as the rainforests expand and the valleys fill with water again, saturating the land and giving back what the creatures had lost only a short while ago.
This is the future and this is the past.
Coming from the seas, a new species inhabits the trees, and from there they take to the land. Soon a new kind of people emerges from the huts and temples that they have built to honour their gods. But this time their brains are a little bit bigger and their souls a little more apparent.
This is the growth and flourishing.
As the people learn to communicate in their many languages they discover some social differences, but these they accept because on a spiritual level they are all still connected. These relationships lead them onto a path of self-discovery and a preparation for a new scale of thought.
There is art and science.
Great philosophers come and go, speaking their minds on dreams not yet formed. There is an understanding for what is right and what is wrong. There is difference in beauty and truth. The creator now walks among the people.
There is strength and splendour.
In an instant there is an awesome development, a scale of construction that has not been seen before. It overgrows, She looks down upon a sprawling settlement; a mess of flesh and stone. She is watching uneasily over the people as one man speaks to the world.
And then there is war.
On a dark afternoon in the dead of winter, one very tired old lady rests back in her chair and thinks: One more time.
