Mist Walkers
D G Williford

I rise up
Looking around I dont see anyone
The morning mist through the oaks is playing tricks on me

Is that them, or is it merely a swirl in the vapor
Surely they would be wandering by now
It is time

I go back to the edge of our border
Another piece of the black iron railing is broken
Weeds are choking Mary Stuart Bell 1833-1875

I see them coming towards me now
Children skipping, holding hands
Couples arm in arm

Catherine Eliza Sexton 1779-1785 hands me a daisy
She smiles and I take her little hand

We begin our daily procession through our little community
Joshua F. Smith 1803-1856 leads the way through the banana trees
Around the four corners that are our confines
