Desk Lunch Part 3
D G Williford
She turned her legal pad and went over her to do list.
Who was she fooling? She couldn’t get all this done
by the end of the year, much less the end of the month.
Her boss was an anal perfectionist that belonged
in accounting, not sales.
Nothing was ever good enough for the prick.
She sucked up to him though and played nice nice at work.
But as soon as 6:00 p.m. rolled around, she was out
of there, a Marlboro Ultra Light in one hand and a glass
of Pinot Grigio in the other.
She was into reality shows, taking pictures of orbs in
cemeteries and Frappacinnos.
She stared back at her list, not seeing it.
She looked at the clock ticking away the
minutes in this piss ass job.
She saw Peaches walk by her office.
Peaches was pushing 50 and still wore her hair
below her shoulders in long red strands she had
dyed every six weeks. She had a white
streak in the front that she kept white.
It was her tacky trademark.
“Hey, what’s going on?” She screeched as she
looked down at her perfectly glued on Lee nails.
“Nothing much, just trying to make some sales,
another day another two cents.”
Everything about Peaches was tacky. She wore
fake eyelashes, fake nails,a fake mole
and had even been out with Trey.
They probably got along perfect because she
smelled like White Diamonds and Aqua Net hairspray.
Her fish and more was rumbling in her stomach.
Must be the tartar sauce.
Just as her cell and office phone rang simultaneously,
she had to run to the bathroom.
Thirty minutes later she was back at her desk
pushing aside Time Management and You,
Who Moved my Cheese and The One Minute Manager.
Who needed those piece of shit balderdash
books when you were getting
ready to do what she had in mind.
