Vital Signs Jason ''The Bloodman'' Taylor
''Man falls in love, then loves what vanishes..'' {W.B. Yeats}
Leo sat bolt upright in bed, in a cold sweat. He climbed out of bed, walked over to the window to look out. All was dark; not even a moon. He closed his eyes tightly, and could see himself lying in the hospital bed, connected to the life support systems. gibbering fear chewed away at his guts. NO, he thought. It can't be real, it can't be true! He'd never crashed his car into that tree; he was ALIVE, damn it! ALIVE!!! Then he heard his wife's voice behind him, the voice of undisputable truth and stark terror. ''Leo...what are you doing out of bed? You're.. ....DEAD.'' NO!! he thought. It can't be true! I can't be dead... ...what will happen to my wife...my CHILDREN?!
{You don't have a wife or children, Leo...} WHY?! {Because you're DEAD} ''You are dead, Leo,'' his wife repeated, anguish written in every line of her features. ''I'm ...dead?'' ''You...you might as well be, my love. The doctors say that even if you DID come out of the coma, you'd be a vegetable, an empty head attached to a useless body. I can't bear to see you that way...can you?''
''I love you, Anna,'' he said, and smiled weakly. She did and said the same. Then he let go.
He felt the hospital bed underneath him again, heard the beep of the monitoring machine, the sound of the IVAC pump. An antiseptic odor stung his nostrils. He closed his eyes, but he could still see Anna. It was like looking at a TV screen, the last scene of a movie before the final credits rolled, the final fade out. The obituraries. ''I've always loved you, Anna,'' he said. ''And I will continue to, even in death.'' She told him the same, her voice fading like an echo as he spiraled down into darkness.
Then the screen in his head faded to black.

"This is OK, but you need to explain some parts of the story better. You have the quote by W.B. Yeats to start off the story which is nice, but then you throw people right into the thick of things. You say the guy is in the hospital because of a car accident, which answers one question, but then he's yelling and screaming and his wife is communicating with him telepathically, I suppose. (I don't read a lot of comic books). It's all sort of confusing. " -- Steven.
