DENALI PARK
BY DAVID VERNON

Wildlife activist, GORDON HABER, waits for a helicopter to pick him up from Denali Park. As it grows darker he realizes that the helicopter isnt coming. As he looks for shelter, Gordon smells something rank--turns and finds himself face to face with a ten foot grizzly bear-showing its teeth--ready to attack! Gordon tries to scare it off. The bear moves in closer. As Gordon steps back he falls through a hole in the earth--a hunters trap, and spirals down a long, dark tunnel. This is another bad night for Gordon.

The movie starts with Gordon as a dissatisfied researcher for the Michigan Fish and Game department. Gordon has no family, no friends, no way out of his solitude. Gordon gets called into a meeting and is laid off from his dull office job. The only job he is qualified is in Fairbanks Alaska. With no other prospects and his back against the wall, Gordon accepts the job and moves to Alaska.

Gordon is blown away by the beauty of Fairbanks and astounded by all if its natural resources. But it is also a city in conflict. The hunters make a living killing moose and reindeer. They believe Alaskan wolves are responsible for killing off all the moose and reindeer, so in turn, the hunters kill the wolves. The environmentalists want to keep the Alaskan wolf packs safe, especially in the protected area of Denali Park. This is the heated fight Gordon finds himself in the center of.

Gordon rents a cabin from his estranged sister, LILY. Gordon has been a complete stranger all these years to Lily and her two kids, SAMANTHA (15) and CHAPIN (9). Ever since his own parents died and he was sent by himself to live with relatives, Gordon hasnt put any stock into the idea of family. But still, Gordon finds himself bonding with young Samantha--who is in desperate need of a father figure, and Chapin, who needs a role model.

Gordon rents a plane to visit Denali National Park. He is unprepared for what he finds--a place filled with incredible beauty, and unsurpassed nature--a place where birds and wildlife roam free. Denali Park speaks to him in a way that no place else ever has. He is finally home.

Gordon studies the wolves and falls in love with the historic Toklat pack. Gordon is amazed to discover that these wolves have striking similarities to human families--they express love and joy, they work together on projects, they take care of each others cubs, and, when there is death in the pack, they experience grief, remorse and great loss. Gordon even names the wolves and comes to understand their personalities.

Unfortunately, the hunting community isnt jumping up and down over Gordons discoveries. Especially TAG WINTERS, a sadistic hunter who gets great pleasure in killing off the wolf packs. Tag calls a war on Gordon, and all of a sudden, Gordon gets death threats, his car gets graffitied, and a pilot warns him to move out of town before someone takes Gordon down. In addition to this, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, declares war on Alaskan wolves, signing into law aerial shooting of wolves and offering a $150 bounty for them.

DENALI PARK is the exciting story of Gordons war against brutality. It is set in the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the U.S, utilizing all of unique qualities that Alaska is known for--abundant wild life, Grizzly bears, wolves, the aurora borealis, North Pole Alaska--and it showcases Alaska in a way that it has never been seen before--as one of the last frontier cities in the U.S.

The part of Gordon Haber is a movie star role, one that could very well gather the interest of a great actor, like Woody Harrelson or Bradley Cooper, Leonardo Di Caprio, or Brad Pitt to name just a few. Gordon starts out a lonely man living a sad existence who ends up becoming the champion of Alaska, fearlessly taking his case to the streets, to the people, to the courts and even to the Today Show in New York. Gordon becomes a hero to many across the world. Gordon also, through his time observing the Alaskan wolves finally learns how to be a part of a family, embracing his sister and his niece and nephew.

Denali Park, inspired by a real life story, is a movie that deals with important, emotional issues and stands as a sweeping epic filled with adventure, suspense, tears and laughter. Denali Park is a movie that will be embraced by much of the country and the children of our wild, it will be disliked by the hunting and trapping communities, but it will be talked about and discussed by everyone.
