Pledge This America
Katherine Smith

I refuse to pledge allegiance to a Nation of Blood and Greed
With perverse morals and dishonest dictators shoveling a grave for my neighbor and thee.
Hand over heart, respect for a flag that billows ghostly in the wind
Its stars no longer shine bright and proud, the red, white, and blue stripes grow restless again.
My Republic, the subject of a Fallen Dynasty
Where men wishing to be somebody, Murder and Lie for the respect of you and me
A Nation Indivisible by dollar signs and death
Liberty and Justice for infidelity and theft
Ruled under Man
With one nuclear bomb to disintegrate us all.
