Simply But A Mockingbird
Christy Mack

Simply but a mockingbird whispering whims away
Upon a shadow up come forth on this here dimful day
One would say the bird would fly upon one merciful door
But all puffed up and gleaming there he sat and perched on floor

One small girl a glistening sight would be just walking by
Then a boy with an equal glow would see her and heart's would fly
While bird sits and while hearts fly I still sit here and ponder,
Why love never leans my way and why I even bother

But the conquest to many isn't nearly as hard
And I seem to have lost my way
So can I pick that bird up and let him fly
So he can come to me

Simply but a mockingbird whispering whims away
Upon a shadow up come forth upon this dimful day
To patch him up and see his wings as the sun swallows up the day
Would be the conclusion of his rest as he went out to play

And one would think that such a bird would be able to fly
Same as my heart has been and seen so many broken times
Let him soar in the sky tonight so he can see another day
Another day to ponder if he'll ever find his way

Within me there is a bird simply whispering whims away
And dark shadows follow me along every dimful day
So take good riddance if you shall find a path take up some lover's heart
Every minute and every hour you thank God you aren't like me

Love comes to everyone in some kind of way out of hope or not
As I watch the bird's wings heal and he to join his flock
Maybe they know what they're doing and I should join them too
Or maybe I should just go back 'cause I've been missing you
