ABOUT
THE AUTHOR
Charly Forney is a pen name for Piper Davenport, who is a recovering writer. The last time she checked, she had a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. A self-proclaimed turtle, she dreams of becoming stranger over time. [November 2009]
Black as midnight, dark as sin,
a woman opened her legs and
let him in. Blood-red hot eyes
and alcohol consumed them,
as their rhythm beat the same drum.
A prostitute addicted to drugs, and
a woman-beating punk became one.
Back of an alley, only a dirty cat
moved. Sweat collided as raggedy
cars skidded by. Rough, tough
neighborhood . . . no doctors or
lawyers seen. He slapped her
as heroin made a comeback into
her veins. Fires blazed as Detroit
gained arson capital reputation.
Life wasn't a peanut butter and
jelly sandwich. All of this happened
on the mean, ghetto streets (1984).
