To My Blooming Rose
Mason Cole

Perfection burnished bright as gold
Gleams on thy lovely face;
Thy shining soul aloft you hold
To light the world with grace.

In time, mayhaps, I might be taught
By thou to put aside
The barriers that I have wrought
For from the world to hide.

Ne’ermore shall my heart be content
To roam the wanton fair
When near me, pure and elegant,
Lies one beyond compare.

See through my self-effacing thought
And find my value vast,
The heart whose worth cannot be bought,
Whose promised love will last.

One change has altered all of me:
At first I from you ran,
But you instilled my wish to be
A better, kinder man.

Now answer me and take my hand
And hold fast through the years,
Till we two reach sweet Zion-land
Devoid of any tears.
