(I See) The Light
R Bennett Okerstrom

Through the smoke
I see the light
The end of the tunnel
An opaque white
Beyond my sight
I feel you there
Incandescent
Thin as air
In a trance
You summon me
Within my veins
It flows through me
The darkest dance
Takes over me
And swallows me
Wholeheartedly
Yet through the smoke
You are still there
Beyond my reach
Fluorescent glare
Uncanny stare
Envelopes me
Encloses me
Exposes me
Imprisons me
Takes over me
Disposes me
Why can't I see
You standing there
Through all the smoke
Through all the light
Through all the days
Through all the nights
Through all the times
I tried to fight
The sudden urge
There to entice
Me to the place
The light so bright
I'm giving in
However slight
I'm giving in
I see the light
I'm giving in
Your hold, too tight

"terrific, love the short lines that say so damn much - frankly it pisses me off that i can't do this. " -- curious.
"Curious: You can do it. Just start writing down everything that comes to mind and soon you will have ideas to build from." -- R. Bennett.
"In the beginning, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel seems as if this person is about to make a positive epiphany. But the rest just gets darker and it seems he is struggling with the "you" he feels summoned by. He seems reluctant to give in, yet still gives up, knowing he will be consumed and disposed of. I feel like the "you" could represent many things: codependency, addiction, a negative relationship...forbidden fruit in its many forms. Again, R. Bennett, you have made me think and reflect on my own life." -- Royal D.
"Stimulating the reader's thoughts is the essence of being an author. Thanks!" -- R. Bennett.
"Love it!" -- Tessa.
