Thoughts Of A Comet
Majen Stewart

As a comet drifting through the endless void of space,
I thought about life itself as if it were a place.
I thought about the role I played in my show of fate.
The more I pondered this contemplation, I began to hate.
I hated that I did not have a bigger part to shine
In the Universe’s play that controlèd all of mine.

The flight through empty space was as cold as a nightmare’s winter.
As I passed the heavenly planets, my mind began to splinter.
I found I could not lead. I was just another drone.
My mind began to tremble as I found I was alone.
I found I could not bear myself in my present form,
So I headed through the cosmos to somewhere safe and warm.

Turning my hefty core around onto a foreign course,
I decided that the end was near and I felt no remorse.
Like a bullet with no victim, I shot fast, toward Earth.
I realized this was my destiny from my very time of birth. Tail brimming with light, like fireworks in July,
I led my way into Earth, fully ready to die.

Expectedly, my outer form became hot and began to crumble.
The power of the atmosphere gave me a sense to be humble.
From that very point my purpose was evident, bright, and clear.
The best thing for the universe was for me to disappear.
Even with my purpose known, and the fire starting to mend,
And even with my noble thoughts, there was true terror at the end.
