What Will She Be Like?
Green Emerald
They say if they’re too modern they’re trouble
If they’re young they’ll try being your double
But they are worse if they’re backward
If they’re too old they’re awkward
Which one would you prefer?
The ones that beg to differ
The ones that don’t know any better
Or the ones that are experienced
I always wondered what mine would be like
Would she be the one I grew to dislike
Would we get along, go out together and mingle
Or would I be happy going out single
Would she let me wear what I want
On her lips would there always be a taunt
Would I be able to go anywhere
Would I have to take her with me everywhere
Would she wait on me hand and feet
Or would she always want to compete
Would she come between me and my man
Or would she help me all that she can
Would she interfere
Or would she steer clear
Would she be able to give up her reign
And with me share her surname
Could she love my kids like her own
Or would she prefer to be left alone
She turned out to be nothing what I expected
All I ever felt was neglected
She drove me out
All she ever did was scream and shout
I realised then, no mother in law can be your mother
She’s only your mother by law and can never be no other
