Tim D Ryan
These are the highlights of my day,
Swing sets and a better way.
This is where I thought I was lost,
But I found myself in your arms.
Cradled and cushioned.
The lovin worth the wishin
These are the set backs that make me, me.
But only on the outside.
These are the patchwork scars that tell a story,
Thats echoed on the inside.
Riddles and rhymes were well worth the time,
Even though they took forever to find,
All the displaced words and set them straight.
They speak of life, its beginnings and ends.
And all the different ways we meet.
The park bench, lobbies, or that hotel closet.
They find the profound in the support of everyday nothings,
The common rambling in a drunken old mans wise words.
Messages hidden in plain view rejected by a rush-hour media.
And those words, they find silence in schoolyards, prisons, and the most unlikely of places.
The highlights they find in everyday life.
Oh so true, I could go on for this like days,
Somehow making sense, somehow making the best of bets.
But like the words, which speak of life and its ends,
Ill take the alternative route, the path pre-taken.
Ill follow the sketchy steps, of wannabe dignitaries before me,
And skip to the holes in the broken beat.
