The walls are cardboard
and the floors are glass
all i have is myself
and some time for private contemplation
I think fo lone tears
the way one tear alone
can never fulfill
the hearts yearning to cry
I think of childhood fears
the way they seem laughable
like the hypocricy you called love
all the things you did
to negate what was real
I think of pride
the way one dark night
you'll meet it in an alley way
and need a formal introduction
as the handcuffs that join us loosen
I think of the days when grief painted my face
as you swallowed my footsteps
and admired my tears as they fell
as I would all the times you promised to catch me
I think of the slow nights
as you monitored my heartbeat
secretly collecting my thoughts
placing them in frames
on your bedroom wall
I think of my developed ability
conditioning myself
to promise you my love
and forgive the pain I felt
blaming circumstance
not person
I think of what I realised
tonight
alone
in private contemplation
you rest your hand on mine
its not love
but a silent fear
