Ghost: A Love Story

*Reflections*

Its hard
Not to think of you
When I watch the stars at night
You always told me to have my eyes on the skies
I know I will now

I like to think that youre up there
Watching over me
Waiting for the day when I will join you

You told me we would be together forever
You said that no matter what
You would never leave me
You said that you would stay until hell froze over
And until the heavens melted with fervent heat
And the elements on earth were set ablaze with the fires of the abyss
And now I finally realize
Forever is a long time

You said that no matter what happened
If I was lost
You would find me
Its hard to believe that now

Ever since you left
Ive questioned your promises
Your devotion to me
Your essence

You left me here alone
I begged you to stay
To hold on with me
Don't leave me
You can't leave me
I can't do this alone
Fight, fight, for me.
Please
Please don't go

I told you I couldnt survive without you
But you left
You let the stars take you
And left me here alone
Why didnt you take me with you?
I wonder now
Still
As I always have

There are always the times
I can feel you here
And I can forget about my fears
Pretending that you are near
I know your watching over me
And I forever dream about the day
When youll be smiling back at me
And I will be free for all eternity
When I can be where you are
And you know its true
That I would do
Anything if I could just get you
To take me where you are
And rescue me
Free me
From the chains that I am bound
Here on earth
Come and take me away

I look upon the stars
Shimmering in the sky
And reflect upon the lake
You told me that stars were broken glass
That someone scattered about the water
But now Im not so sure

I believe those stars are my tears
Tears you collected from my drowning eyes
And scattered into the sky

And the sky with sorrows
Bows its head to the oceans
And weeps the tears and memory away
Filling the sea with woes, sadness, and anguish
And the sea, unwilling to bear the burden of disconsolation
Churns its waves until they toss and turn
And pushes the tears to its crests
Trying to throw away the pain
They try to scatter them anywhere
Everywhere but in their acreage
The waves finally push the tears into the sky
Begging it to take them back

As the stars await the sky
A black velvet curtain forms in front of it
Pushing them back towards the seas
This total internal reflection of memories of the past
Will exist forever until I can be with you once again

Far and away
I see a shooting star
Leaving a trail of shimmering dust
Down the cheek of the sky
And I know its you
Crying your tears of mourning and memory
Up in the sky

* ~ * ~ *

*Ghost*

I know you never believed me
When I told you that I would stay with you forever
You thought that I would leave you
Leave you stranded forever without ever thinking of you

But the truth is
Ive never left you
Although you thought I have
Im with you always
Though youll never know it
I blow you kisses in the breeze
You close your eyes and face the wind and smile
And I think you sense that Im there

Sometimes you think that Im with you
And you smile knowing that Im gone,
But you fell as if Ive just kissed you softly on your cheek
And left you with another bittersweet memory
That chases the demons away

I wonder if this is a haunting or if Im a guardian angel
Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in your mirrors
No wings
I guess Im not an angel

I sleep with you at night
I stroke your hair
Whisper in your ear how much I love you
And you smile again
And turn towards my touch
I offer what little comfort I can

Sometimes I catch you smiling
You get that far off look in your eyes
And a loving smile tugs at the corners of your mouth as you smile
And I know that your remembering me

I follow you when you visit my grave
You lay a single white rose everyday
You talk to me
Even though you see it as absurd
You tell me how much you miss me
You throw your arms around my gravestone and weep your silver tears
I need you
I miss you so much
I hate being without you
I miss you
I miss you
I wish I could believe you're somewhere happy and safe
But I don't know anymore
I need you
I need to be with you

Each one I carefully collect
Gathering them life delicate petals of a rose
I place them in my pocket
And wait until the time is right
To toss them into the heavens
Creating silver stars that shimmer upon you
As you watch them reflecting upon the sea

And you remember what I have told you
About the broken glass and the stars
And you think about me
And you only remember the dejection and the sadness

You know about your tears
And that I decorate the sky with them
For the world to mourn my loss

You always thought that you lost me
But the truth is that I lost you
I cant touch you
I cant comfort you
I cant kiss you
You thought that I wanted to leave you alone
But oh, I wanted to take you with me
I wanted to take you into my arms and erase your pain and rue

Each time the memory sweeps your mind
You forget about the blithe that we once had
And you cry your crystalline tears again

Each one shattering upon the peaceful glass surface of the water
Breaking it into ripples
That seem to stretch on for miles out and around
Turning the water the deep blue shade of your woes

Each tear that falls upon the waters surface
Is another one wasted that I cannot keep
One which is destroyed
Poisoning the water with your anguish
Transforming the water into an endless sea of affliction
Which reflect your melancholy mood
And the grief you hold bottled up inside

Which will last forever more
Until the day
When I can take you in my arms
And wipe away the tears from your eyes
And erase the bruises that scar your spirit and soul
Freeing you to soar amongst the stars
In the velvet purity of the night
As one
