400 Meters
Zach Imwalle

The sun shines bright
My heart filled with fright
The smell of the track reaches my nose
Adrenaline flows from my head to my toes

I think of the race as I jog to my blocks
In the lanes next to me are some talented jocks
I get in my stance and do some run-throughs
I get out fast and hard; I知 ready to cruise

I walk to the start line, my legs feel quick
My worthy competitors think their pretty slick
The starter is ready, his gun pointed to the sky
I知 in the position, I知 ready to fly

In my head I visualize the run
Even though I知 nervous I知 having some fun
The starter痴 hand raises as he yells, 鉄ET!
My heart is pounding; I begin to sweat

In a blink of an eye, the gun goes CRACK!
My mind and body become one with the track
My arms pump swiftly, my form is clean
But the line stays even, the opposition is mean

We come off the curve and I turn on the jets
I run the back straight hard with no regrets
I begin to accelerate, my speed is unmatched
The pack and I become unattached

The straight is over, two hundred meters done
I hit the turn hard, I have this race won
But my speed is too fast, I cannot endure
My lungs are screaming, everything痴 a blur

My breath is uneven, I cannot sustain
All I can think about is the relentless pain
The gap is closing, I知 losing ground
The runners are closing all around

The turn soon ends, the finish in sight
I take in the pain and begin to fight
I battle the home straight like a ship in a storm
My legs have no feeling; I知 losing my form

Fifty meters to go, I知 almost complete
I知 not going to let myself get beat
I drive my legs hard; my arms swing like crazy
I maintain the lead as the world goes hazy

I need to win; It would make a good story
In my head I repeat, 哲o guts, no glory
With a few feet to go, I lean over the line
This race is over this race is mine
