ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Who me? Born in 1962. Wrote prolifically as a teenager, heavily influenced by books & the music of the time. Stopped writing for 20 years more or less. But started again...
Some of the work here dates from the "early period" - 1979-1982. The rest is since 2000.
I`ve no idea whether I`m a better writer now or then. Maybe I was never any good! I`ve always wondered.
Feedback most welcome...

I've not visited this site at all since January 2006 as I shortly after discovered the unfettred joys of blogging. I'm still writing and actually had a very good summer of writing. I'm posting a recent poem here now but all my recent work is available on my blog - take a look - http://peter-rivendell-poems.blogspot.com/

[December 2006]

Adventure Playground
Peter Rivendell

Adventures in a derelict,
Cautiously we play,
Waiting for an echo of old dreams.
Reliance increases,
Imaginations strain, black trees block our way.
The garden in phase with our cycle;
Dependence causes a scream.
Clawing at thoughts of old comrades
Who failed to make the grade.
Singing snatches of rhythmic codes,
A thread detaches and bleeds.

Who will heed our warning?
Angry at second suggestions,
The decaying pulse renews and excites.
Balancing on the swing,
Horrified at hints of greater lights
In another part of town.

Songs for togetherness. The weather fades in.
Assaults on the consciousness. Naive innocents
Wander to the path, return and play again.
Second experiences at dawn and other times of day.
Muscular, crepuscular, cadence fades in.
Hedging old debts with secondary angels.
Figures from old literature still plague
                                          The faded day.

DISCLAIMER: STORYMANIA DOES NOT PROVIDE AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWS. ALL REVIEWS ARE PROVIDED BY NON-ASSOCIATED VISITORS, REGARDLESS OF THE WAY THEY CALL THEMSELVES.

"First, let me tell you something on a personal level. I think it is horrible that I come here to look at your work, and there are so few reviews here. I don't claim to be a great poet, but there are a few simple things people could have suggested that would make your work so much better than it is. After our message board chat, I thought I would see what people had said, and what a greater variety of your work looked like. I think you should know, I plan to post this message, (so it can be deleted) then read what you have posted here. If my reviews help, great, but I don't blame you for having been upset. You have more talent than that." -- Sylvia.
""Waiting for an echo of old dreams." You mixed single and plural. "Waiting for echos of old dreams." works a little better. "Imaginations strain, black trees block our way." enter after the comma. Reads a little better. (like the visual on this line by the way!) The last stanza, very nice. When you group double lines, try and do it that way, rather than just one in a group of singles. I don't know if you intended a particular conflict of self, but I read it as my own. Regardless it was consistant in it's tension, therefore it was effective. Not my particular style, but I did like this one." -- Sylvia.
"Good poem, couldn't quite understand it, but hey, it is better than mine! Thanks for your opinion, I'm working on my rhyming!" -- Joshua Ortiz.
