Vampire
Judith Goff

Passing through this world, face pale,
lips like rubies, glistening red.
Clinging to darkness, frigid being
with human form and the soul of a beast.

Clothed in a mantle of mortal flesh,
to deceive the victim of such thirst
as humankind has never known?
Or, could habit determine the guise
and familiarity bring solace to one without?

Haunting streets of blackest night
touched by moonlight is she not?
While brittle stars glitter hard and blind
above one cursed to endless life.
