Round Like A Shot

As the shades of darkness bring close to the day
With the light off I readied for bed
I could see from my window shadows dancing in the night
I could see there were men, walking round in my shed
I picked up the phone and called the police
And reported all that I had seen
"There's no one in the area that can help you" they said
It was obvious they weren't very keen

I hung up the phone feeling anger inside
But called back in a moment or two
"You remember I called about the men in my shed"
"Don't hurry as I have now shot them for you"
In just moments there were cars with flashing blue lights
There were helicopters and armed personnel
Police surrounded my house, their pistols were drawn
The burglars driven straight to a cell

I was taken to one side by the officer in charge
Hostility shown all over his face
"You said that you'd shot them, you lied on the phone"
"From where I stand that's just not the case"
"And you lied to me", I said to this man
"The evidence is so unmistakable"
"When I asked for your help I'm sure that you said"
"I'm sorry, but there is no one available"
