A contemptuous disbelief in
human goodness and sincerity.
The incurable cynic, that�s me.
When compliments are paid,
and don�t get me wrong,
they�re not that many,
I still wonder. I always have.
What do they want from me?
No doubt, something in return.
Sometimes I�d find out right away.
Other times, I never did.
Oh, some were sincere, I guess.
Then again, maybe not.
It�s hard to tell, there�s so many
who believe their own bullshit.
So many who say they care.
They love everyone.
Share your joy, feel your pain.
What do they want? I wonder.
Everybody wants something.
That�s just the way it is.
It�s human nature to be selfish,
to give in order to get.
It�s true today just as it
was, so many years ago.
I can still hear her voice,
see the look on her face,
when she said, �I love you.�
Why should I believe her?
Why would she love me?
Although its been years,
I still wonder. I always have.
