Self-Inflicted
Peter Elvern People

    Scratches along your soul,
dragging the pain over you
Marking skin with your need,
the blood trails follow suit
Plunging down into pain
Feelings lost amidst it,
scaring tissue with hate

Despise your own person
No light seen reflecting,
the shimmering an illusion
Slicing out the lies and hate,
losing the things that hurt
Gaining more tattoos of life
Deep shades of colour cover you

Your skin shows it up well
Hurting the soul for life,
forcing change within you
Unwanted ailments inside,
needed to be treated
Left to lie alone inside
Empty of all that breaths

Hoping to find it again
Thinking it lays over there,
on the edge of the abyss
You jump - cutting deep
Released from life's pain,
you slide deep into bliss
The darkness engulfs you
