THE AUTHOR
You may call me "Ed" due to the fact that everyone else calls me this. I enjoy every kind of fiction ranging from mystery to science fiction. Although I enjoy all types of fiction, I prefer fantasy fiction. Some of my favorite books are fantasy such as The Eragon Trilogy, The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Inkheart, The Lord of the Rings, and many others that do not come to mind. Ever since reading my first fantasy book, I've always wanted to do something of the sort and now I would like to see if I have the talent to do so. This is my first story, The Darkened Kingdom and I would appreciate any comments, whether bad or good but please try and be polite. Thank you for your time.

The Darkened Kingdom Chapter 0: Prologue

Prologue: The Threads of Fate
The fires burned brightly as the buildings surrounding the kingdom began to crumble under its own weight. Demons filled the skies as screams and shrieks can be heard in the background. The marble floor was stained in a crimson red and littered with endless piles of bodies. Pillars that once held up the once wonderful city are now cracked and decimated. In the distance, three figures can be seen engaging in a deep conversation.
“Who are you!? Why would you do this…this foul act toward your own people?” The young man angrily swung his arm to his right yelling.
A young woman passed the young man screaming, “This is unforgivable! You should be struck down by the gods and locked in the burning fires of hell for this!”
The older man laughed off the insult. “You two really do not know do you?” The older man places his hand on his mask. “This is far beyond your understanding. But I feel you two deserve to know what is behind this mask before your deaths.” The older man pulls the mask off revealing a familiar face.
“You…YOU!!” The young man stood back shocked and a feeling of dread filled his heart. “It Can’t Be!”
The older man laughed a sinister laugh. “Oh but it is. And since that little problem is taken care of…I’ll see you in the next life.” The older man disappeared from the duo’s eyes.
“Where…did he go?!” The young girl turned from side to side franticly looking for the man. A sound of a sword and a cry was heard from behind. The young girl heard coughing from behind her. She turned quickly and screamed in horror. The young man had a sword cut straight through his heart.
“No not like this…” The older man laughed at the young man’s futile efforts to stop his own blood and disappeared again.
“I will leave you two to enjoy each others company for now. But I will be back to finish you off woman! Hahaha!” The older man’s voice echoed through the town square. The young man dazed falls but is caught by the young woman.
“I…I wish…” the young man tries to speak as he loses consciousness.
“Hush…I know,” The young girl cries holding the man to her chest. “Please don’t die. I love you. Don’t leave me!” The young girl screams hysterically with her eyes swelling up with tears.
She holds the man with love and hope but her attempt is in vain for the man spoke his last words, “I…l-love..you.” The man’s head droops to the right and lies motionless in the arms of the woman. A screech of sorrow echoes throughout the darkened kingdom.
