The proposed surge for the war in Iraq is yet another negative element that President Bush in presenting to the American people. The surge and the war are both unnecessary and ineffective. The war in Iraq is a religious battle that has been going on for thousands of years. This war will continue to be fought with or without involvement of the American troops. The surge is not a path to peace, it is a path that will lead to more lives lost, greater debt, and the division.
There are 150,000 troops who are currently fighting in the war. President Bush wants to send 21,000 additional troops into the middle east. America should be bringing troops home, instead of sending more into the battle field. Thousands of lives have already been lost, why should the country voluntarily spare more? The proposed surge will only cost men and women their lives and loved ones, for a cause that the country does not need to be involved in.
This is a religious and resource battle that the United States could have easily stayed out of. The Sunni and the Shiites have been at war for over a thousand years. Nothing can resolve a conflict such as this, especially not the American government. Despite, the government's efforts, America's leaders do not understand where this conflict came from- -no one really does. This battle is not America's religious dispute, nor is it America's oil or land, in essence, this is not America's war.
In this war there is no path to peace, only a path to more debt and more lives lost. The United States is already $44 trillion in debt. A majority of this debt is caused from wars that the country has participated in and contributed. Why does the President went to accumulate more debt for the American people for a war the nation does not need to be in? $19 billion has been spent on this war, and for what purpose? Men and women honorably risk their lives everyday for a war that no one understands, much like the Vietnam war. However, there is no positive outcome in the war on Iraq in fact there in no outcome at all.
Many negative consequences will continue to from the War on Iraq, especially if the surge is activated. If the surge is put into place, a draft may occur which will effect millions of young men and their families. Education will be hindered, families will be torn apart, and lives will be ruined- all the surge is not a path to peace, it is a path of destruction. Americans must protest this surge and the War on Iraq, before the US suffers anymore losses.
