Meg The Mahogany Doll
Francis was a lonely puppeteer and disliked people after his puppet-act had taken a back seat. Meg would sit on his right knee and when the puppeteer was lonely he would enact his puppet play.
Meg- How sad I am today, I hardly have any audience and nobody to clap for me.
Francis- What use is the rowdy crowds, they dont know an inkling about puppets and have no sentiment. But I alone can understand the feelings of my puppets. I am an entertainer, the cherished puppeteer.
Meg- Just yesterday, Francis I had been made a lovely gown, sewn with a patchwork of cloth. I still love to wear it and wish some more be made for my friends. Who knows my show may still be hoisted abroad and Francis you may earn a lot of money.
Francis- Nah, money!!. If you have a lot of it a person is unhappy and even if you have too little.
Meg- See a little child peeps through the window.
Francis- In quite an angry tone. Be off with you at once.
But the child knocks at the door.
Trent-Sir, I am Trent, your new neighbour, I just peeped to see the dolls in your little marquee. Can I see you talk with your little puppet.
Francis- Well shes no puppet, shes Meg my little Mahogany doll.
Trent- Other puppets Ive known are dead wooden, but this ones for real.
Francis taken aback- O did you really like my ventriloquism. I play harlequins, princesses, vagabonds and gipsys too.
Trent- How come you stopped your puppet act for the people , You know you are quiet entertaining.
Well said Francis- Twas coz of a war between the toelingers and the thumblingers.
Trent- A war
Francis- Yes. The Princess Meg of the thumblingers would get all thumbs, clumsy before the act. And the toelingers would laugh and poke fun at her.
Trent- Ymean the people of the neighbourhood.
Francis- No I mean the gypsies and the harlequins and the vagabonds, Ysee. They hardly appreciated my puppet act. And I did not want to make a clown of myself .
Trent- Please sir if you would only perform the puppet show for me and my family.
Francis- Ofcourse I would and, Francis removed all his puppet dolls made of wood and started to enact his puppet show.
All watched happily and this time even the gypsies, harlequins and the vagabonds applauded for poor Francis the puppeteer.( WHICH WERE INFACT HIS WOODEN PUPPETS)
As for Trent he sat upon his left knee and made Francis famous. (Trent was his imaginary friend puppet too)
