Phil Gets A Friend Heather Burke
Phil was different from the other 6 year old boys. He like art, music, and science instead of sports like the other boy. All the other boys used to pick on Phil. Calling him names like freak and weirdo.
Phil would be so sad somedays he would run home from school crying. His mother would always be at the front door waiting for him. On the days he would come home crying his mother would try to comfort him by telling him he was special and someday everyone would see it.
Phil didn't belive he was special no matter what his mother told him. He thought she was only saying that because she was his mother.
One sunny spring day Phil was sitting under the large maple tree in his front yard watching the other kids playing and wishing he had a friend to play with to. All of a sudden to Phils surprize there was a spark of light and a puff of smoke in front of him.
When the smoke cleared there was a boy standing right in front of Phil. The boy said Hi my name is Brad. Phil continued to stare at Brad not knowing what to say. Until Brad said what's a matter can't you talk? With a shake of his head Phil said Of course I can talk, my name is Phil. Where did you come from?
Brad replied. I came from your imagination. The power of your wish for a friend has brought me to life, but you are the only one that can see me. Phil was so excited to finally have a friend he didn't know what he wanted to do first. The first thing Phil wanted to do was find out what Brad's likes and dislikes were, to Phils amazement they were the same as his.
Phil and Brad decided to go into the house and draw in Phil's room. Phil turned on the radio so they could listen to some music while they worked.
Phil was so happy to finally have a friend he hoped that Brad would be his friend forever. Phil asked Brad to promise to never leave him, but this was something Brad couldn't promise Phil. Brad would only stay with him as long as he needed him. When Phil didn't need him any more he could go to another child that needed him.
Phil didn't get upset with Brad's answer because he didn't think he would ever not need Brad. So he never had to worry about being alone again. As the days went on Phil's mother noticed a change in him. He wasn't as withdrawn as he had been.
Phil had told his mother all about Brad. She was glad that he finally had someone even if he was imaginary.
As the days went on Phil's confidance grew with each passing day. Until one day the most amazing thing happened. A new kid moved in next to Phil's house named Kyle. Phil discovered that Kyle was his age and they had things incomine.
Phil and Kyle started spending more time together, while Phil and Brad started spending less time together. As the days turned into week Brad realized that his time had come to move one because he had done what he came to do, which was so Phil what a great kid he was and that it was ok to be differnt.
That night when Phil came in from playing with Kyle. He found Brad in his room waiting for him. After Phil told Brad what a fun day he had, Brad told him that is was time for him to go.
Phil couldn't understand why Brad had to go. Phil asked are you jealous of Kyle? I'll stop playing with him if you are. I don't want you to go. But Brad replied no Phil I don't want you to stop being friends with Kyle. Now that you have a real friend you don't need me any longer. There are other kids out there that need me. Besides if you ever need me all you have to do is wish me back.
Brad gave Phil a hug and left the same way he arrived. Phil was very sad to see Brad go he was his best friend. As time went on Phil never forgot Brad his special friend but he realized Brad was right he hadn't needed him any longer. Phil was able to understand that Brad helped him to make real, lasting friends.

"Some things to like about this. However, if you want to become a good writer, you MUST work on your grammar, punctuation, and speling. The first paragraph sounds like you're trying to write in Ebonics or some other slang - "he like art"? End of the 12th and 13th paragraphs - "incomine"? do you mean "in common" "Differnt" instead of different. If you knew better and these are just typo errors, than you should be more careful and proof your work before you post it. If you submitted this product to a publisher, it would be trashed like the other thousands of manuscripts from wanna-be writers who are deficient in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. " -- Richard.
