“BILLY BURPED A BUNCH”
by RG Jay
Billy burped a bunch, breakfast, dinner, even lunch. Though it bothered people Billy didn’t care.
I’m just glad that no one knew us at that restaurant in St. Louis, when he burped a bunch with both his parents there.
We were dining out with class, having pheasant under glass. A more sophisticated crowd you will not see.
At first everything was mild, Billy was the perfect child, then he started up his burping jamboree.
His mother quickly looked away, his father’s voice rang with dismay, “excuse yourself for noises you can’t squelch”.
Billy simply looked at him, wiped some gravy off his chin then proceeded to let out another belch.
Next he slurped up his clam chowder burped again but even louder, I can still recall the look on his dad’s face.
He slammed his fork down, paid the check, snatched up Billy by the neck, roasted pheasant flying all about the place.
Out the double doors they flew, past the valet parking too, then we heard Billy wailing in the night.
Now ever since that evening’s riot Billy’s meals are always quiet, and he’s never once again been impolite.
