My six-year-old grandchild asked me, " Grandpa, why does the tooth fairy want my tooth?"
"Oh did you lose another one?" I asked
"Yes grandpa, and I got three dollars for it; but what does the tooth fairy do with little kids teeth?"
"She gives them to the horses." I responded. " Way back before you were born horses didn't have teeth" They couldn't eat apples and grass and anything hard or chewable. This really nice lady who's name was Martha loved horses. And she felt so sad that horses couldn't eat apples and grass and stuff like that.
In them days fairies used to take children's baby teeth and use then for footstools. Now the odd thing about baby teeth is they keep growing after they come out of your mouth. So the tooth fairies were always having to get new ones cause the old ones grew so large that they were too big for footstools. Which meant that there were a lot of too big footstools lying around taking up space where the fairies lived.
So Martha knew about the footstool over growth problem and got the bright idea of using them overgrown footstools as teeth for horses. She went and talked to the fairies who lived around there in those days and they liked the idea of disposing of all those overgrown footstools and at the same time helping out the horses but; they didn't want all that responsibility. Fairies never have been known to like working very much. Well Martha up and volunteered for the job.
They made her and honorary fairy and gave her the job of rounding up all the overgrown foot stools and giving them to the horses and to this day horses have overgrown fairy foot stools for teeth."
Katlin looked up at me with a quizzical look in her eyes and asked, "Are you sure grandpa?"
