The Island Of Avalon (1)
Sandy Wasson

The wind raged, and the waves crashed. It seemed to all on board, that the God of the sea was displeased with their actions.
Wave after wave harassed the decks, ravaging and splintering the wood. From the
looks of the storm, not one man thought he’d ever see home again.

The young lad Tora, of 17 winters, held tightly to the broken wood that kept him
afloat. His hope that he would yet see another dawn fled quickly. He prayed to the Gods to
help him, he had so much he wanted to do and see, but it seemed as if his prayers went
unheard or unanswered.
His eyes grew heavier, and heavier, he knew the inevitable was coming. His eyes
searched for any sign that he might survive, but none was seen. Truthfully, he saw
nothing, not a thing, nop shipmates, no debris, not a single splinter of wood, he thought it
awfully strange.
Mists gathered all around, covering the entire ocean. Tora began to let himself slip,
until he saw it. It looked like an island. It must have been cloaked by the mist. He swam
with all his might, and to his surprise, he found the tide pulling him toward the island.
He beached on the island, and was speechless. The island was a tropical paradise,
untouched by man.
It was a most strange island though. The trees were like none he’d ever seen before,
the colours of the buds on them where such strange colours, like a fanciful woman’s dress
of all different shades.
“What a peculiar place!” but he was glad he was on dry land.
He lay in the sand letting the warm sun warm him, as it began to rise in the east
over some great mountains. He welcomed the light after so long in the darkness under a
vengeful sky.

His stomach began to remind him of his absence of good. Tora rose to his feet and
began his hunt for food in the great forest. The mighty trees towered over and hid most
of the sun’s rays.
Then to the left of him he heard the stampede of horses , but when he turned to
look he was taken a back. Before him rode glorious white horses, with horns of gold upon
their heads.
“Unicorns” Tora questioned. He thought them but a myth, a legend, ideas plucked
from writers minds to amuse children. Tora began to wonder if this island held more
beasts
like this, but more deadly.
“Perhaps I’ll just have some fruit.”With that decided he began his trek for fruits
he might eat.
“Well Silver Fox have you heard the latest news?” asked the gossipy young
water nymph. “No” Aliandra I have not , but I’m sure I will now.” The maiden turned
to Aliandra, her red hair flowing behind her like leaves in a gentle wind. Her eyes of
silver beamed with love, power and wisdom.
“Well I heard from Minara, the tree nymph that someone new has arrived on the
island, a human man.”
“What?” Silver Fox cried in shock.
“Yes, and she says he’s very handsome. Apparently he has voluptuous ebony hair, like
the scales of Doragon, and entrancing blue eyes as the deep dark ocean, also Minara says
he is quite strong, as strong as Atlas who holds up the world.”
“Hush Aliandra. This could be a serious problem.”Silver fox’s auburn hair began to
burn the fires of the sun.
“Silver fox? It isn’t that bad is it?” questioned the now wary nymph
“He could up set the balance of Avalon. It was not meant for humans. He knows not
what lies here, what if he kills one of our creatures?”
“I hadn’t thought of that. Do you actually think he would kill one of our sisters or
brethren?”
“Humans have no respect for life, they take what they want, when they want. They kill
and hunt for game. In their world our brethren and sisters do not exist, at least to them.
They do not believe in magic, and when they do see it, they think it evil and destroy it!”
“No! I don’t want that to happen. Send him away please!”
“Don’t panic. I’ll deal with him so don’t worry.” Silver fox calmed the small nymph.
Her eyes once again held the love that made so many admire, and value her presence.

“What is this place? I feel so confused. Everything looks different, yet the same.”
Tora walked around in the strange forest, unable to find something to eat.
“Wonderful, just wonderful. First I’m shipwrecked, and now I’m stuck on a deserted
tropical island with not a thing to eat, ahhh.” up ahead he spotted an apple tree, a strange
one, but none the less an apple tree.
He sauntered up to it, his mouth watering in anticipation. He stretched forth his
hand to pluck on of the garnet orbs.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” a small voice chimed
   “What? Who’s there?”
   “Don’t eat those. They’re poisonous.”
“How can that be?” Tora asked, and from out of a tree floated a small woman. . . with
wings
   “Who? What?”
   “Have you lost your memory?”
   “No, I have not, why?”
“Those apples are poisonous. Here eat this.”She held out a flower to him
   “What are you?”
“I am Lilabell, faery of the lilies. Now eat.”
   “It’s a flower,” he stated
“Eat the petal’s silly.” Tora plucked a petal off the flower. It was much harder than one
would think. Tora bit into the petal, to find it melted in his mouth, and the taste of a sweet
syrup toyed with his senses.
“Outstanding! This tastes wonderful!”
“Well of course silly nilly. Avalon is different from anything else, and you my friend
must have come from the human world.”
“I am,” Tora replied slightly confused
“Oh, what did those awful humans do to you? By the way, what are you? Are you a
shape shifter, or maybe a spirit of life?”
   “I am . . . ”
“Lilabell,” the soft, delicate voice called to the faery. Lilabell gasped
“Silver fox.” she bows, “what goes on?” Tora glanced in the direction the voice came
from, and found himself dismayed. There stood the most beautiful maiden he’d ever seen.
“Return to your home child. Your mother awaits you.”
“Yes Silver fox.” and off flew the tiny Lilabelle
“Who . . . who are you?” stuttered Tora
“I am Silver Fox. Come with me Tora.”
“How did you . . . ” but she’d already begun to walk. He ran after her
“I was beginning to think I was the only human on the island.”
   “You are.”
   “But . . .”
“I only appear human. I am pure.”
   “What do you mean?”
“Come now.” she walks behind a waterfall into another forest by a lake.
“Have a seat.” he looked around, and breathed out an exasperated breath and sat
himself down.
   “Stay here until I return.”
   “Where are you going?”
“To return to my duties. I return at nightfall, until then I give you food and water until
then.” with that done she disappeared.
“What is going on?”Tora sat himself on the ground and began to eat what was left for
him.
As he lay by the pond, his mind wondered about the place he rested, and about the
beautiful Silver fox of whom he’d just meet.
“You’re the human, aren’t you?” a jubilant voice called startling Tora
   “Who?” he looked around
“The water,” he glanced at the lake and there swam a woman with blue hair and a
peculiar dress on, “I am Aliandra, the water nymph, and you are the human, I would
recognize you anywhere.”
   “How do you know me?”
“Minare told me all about you.”
   “Who is Minara?”
“She’s the tree nymph. She loves to watch people so she always knows what is going on
around the island.”
   “Where exactly am I?”
   “On Avalon.”
“I perceived that. I need to know more.”
“Oh. Well this is the island of magic, and you are the first human to ever set foot here.”
   “Where is here?”
“Here is there, and there is here.”
   “What?” Tora exclaims utterly confused
“Avalon is never in the same place twice, it moves around, and is always hidden from
the humans. Though I am still unsure of how you got here.”
“I see,” his mind was having trouble absorbing this information, “and what of Silver
Fox?”
“Oh, Silver fox is the most respected and beloved one on the entire island. Everyone
knows the name Silver Fox.” she said energetically
   “I don’t.”
“Well of course not, you’re human. All the creatures of magic know her thought. She is
wisdom, she knows all there is to know.”
“She spoke before of being pure.”
“Oh yes she is pure. Purest ever to grace the worlds. She is like our mother, but she is
also like our best friend.
   “So she is your ruler?”
“No, no, no. She is must worse than that.”
“How so?” Tora’s curiosity got the best of him
“She trusts us,” tora gave her a confused look, “she trusts us to do what is right. We lead
our own lives and do our best to do what is right.”
“What kind of governing is that?” Tora spouted rudely
“Let me finish. No one on this island wants to disappoint Silver Fox, and that’s what
would happen if we did something wrong. So we all do what is right. We never hurt each
other, or steal, nothing bad or wrong, but we still have more freedom than anyone else,
and we always get along.” the small nymph giggled as she finished.

“Oceananna, what is this I hear about a war in the underwater world?”
“Oh Silver Fox it’s awful. We are being attacked!” sobbed the small girl
“What has happened? Who dared to break the peace?”
“Kastin. He had gone to the human world for many tides, and when he returned, he
rallied his men and attacked us.”
“Where are your bondeds, the sea dragons? What do they do about this?”
“They can do nothing. If they try, they will be killed, and no one wants that. Please, I
beg you, you must help us.”
“Do not fear my sweet daughter, I will protect you.” but inside she was cursing the
existence of man kind, they do nothing but destroy everything, harm is all they do.
“Come now Oceananna. We go to end this useless fighting.” both women climbed
aboard Oceananna’s sea dragon and dove back to the underwater world.
Night drew closer and closer, and still Silver Fox had not returned. Tora began to
wonder if he’d ever get a chance to look upon the beautiful maiden again. As if hearing
his thoughts, Silver Fox returned in a flash of light.
“Silver Fox, where have you been?”
“At the kingdom of the merai, Aliandra. I hope you’ve kept our guest entertained.”
   “Oh yes I have.”
“You’d best return, the elders await you, and remember, not a word about him.”
“Yes Silver Fox.” she bowed quickly and left, diving back into the waters from whence
she came.
“I hope she didn’t bother you too much.”
“No she was fine. A nice young lady.”
“Well I’m afraid I’m too exhausted to send you back today, to your home. I’ve depleted
my energy.”
“That’s quit alright, I was hoping I could stay here anyway.”
   “What! Why?”
“Well of course. But you, you cannot stay. You are a, a human.”stuttered Silver Fox
   “So.”
“You won’t be able to survive.”
“Oh? Won’t I. This place is a paradise.”
“You have no idea what lies here. You could be eaten alive.”
   “You exaggerate woman.”
   “How dare you!”
“How dare I what?” played Tora
“Do you know who I am?”cried the frustrated Silver Fox
“Indeed I do. Aliandra told me all about you.”She described you briefly, and I know
how important you are.”
   “You. . . you . . .”
“What?” Tora smiled. Silver Fox screeched in frustration
“That’s it.” She floated herself on top of a hill above the lake and lay down, her hair just
dangling above the water as if to tease it, making just the smallest ripples drift out towards
the edge. As Tora gazed upon this great beauty, he felt his heart leap in his chest.
   “Silver Fox?”
   “Yes Tora.”
“Who are you? I mean I know you are respected and powerful, which does confuse me.
You seem no older than 16 winters.”
“That is only as I appear. In truth, I am as old as time itself.” her silver green eyes fell on
him ‘Those beautiful eyes’ Tora thought, “I was born in the very beginning, when the
world itself started,” her voice was soft and smooth like silk, “I was one of the powers
above, and for a long time I watched what happened to the earth as it evolved, and to the
creatures of magic, I was displeased with what I saw, so I came down from the heavens,
and created this island, to protect my children from harm. I had found humans to be
nothing but a nuisance to the world, always hurting and killing, it disgusted me. I told all
who wanted peace to come, and I would protect them, so I did. I have lived for millions of
years,” her voice grew sad and distant, “ and saw so much pain in the world, so much
heartache, mainly by the humans. I watched beautiful empires crumble, and peoples blood
shed on the sullen earth. That is the past, I have refrained from watching your kind
anymore, to much pain for this spirit to hold. As for my appearance, well I just stayed this
way. I became of this age and haven’t changed since.”
“Amazing.”was all he could say. She smiled at him
“Get some sleep.” Tora did as he was told and with in minutes he slept. Though not as
well as he’d hoped. His dreams were filled with her. How much he wanted to touch her
cream skin, run a finger along that divine jaw, that angelic body, and how he longed to
taste her. He was sure it would be much sweeter than the flower he’d had earlier.
Throughout the night his dreams were filled with visions of her, and only her, she was in
her every thought that night, sleep was not very restful at all.
The sun peaked it’s rays over the eastern mountains. The light just caressing the
maidens face, telling her to arise this morn. Vines pushed her up into a sitting position as
she stretched her arms to the sky. Fruit is gathered around her, to welcome her to the new
day.
“So you are awake.”
“Tora!” she exclaimed with shock, “You’re awake.”
“I always rise before the sun.”
“I see. Would you like some fruit?”
“Thank you.” he climbed onto the cliff, bowed his head and gazed at the fruit. He picked
up and strange looking one and held it out to her.
“Your favourite, I presume.”
   “How did you know?”
“You just seem like the kind of woman who would like to juiciest of fruits, I could
already see it dripping from your smooth lips.” he gazed back at the fruit and choose for
himself. Silver Fox was speechless, he read her so well, he knew exactly which was her
favourite, and why. She smiled and took a bit, and just as he had said, a small drip of juice
escaped her, slipping past her lips. He tongue flicked to catch it, tempting Tora, to kiss
her, to take in his arms and love, till the death of his last breath.
“Tora are you alright?”
“Hmm. Oh yes I’m fine.”his mind returned to reality, “I was just thinking.”
“You look flushed, are you well?”
“Yes I’m fine, just a little hot.” Silver fox shrugged her shoulders, and continued to eat.
After their meal, Tora worked up his courage and asked
“Silver Fox, would you mind showing me around the island?”
“I suppose not, It could do no harm, but we must be back by sundown.”
   “Why?”
“I must return you to your world.”
   “What.” fear gripped his heart
“You didn’t actually think you could stay did you?”
“Well I was hoping, that maybe. . .”
“Nonsense! There is no way you could stay here, you could never survive.”
   “What makes you so sure?”
“You are human after all, and the creatures here have already begun their tricks, and are
just waiting for an unsuspecting fool to fall in to them.”
   “And you think I would?”
“I know you would. Besides the fact that you could be eaten alive.”
“I think I know how to fend for myself.”
   “Not here you don’t.”
“That’s it!” Tora lost his temper. Not only was she annoying him with her insufferable
babble, but she insulted him, and his manhood. She thought he was weak, he’d show her.
Tora had pinned Silver Fox to the ground, his hands held her still, and in his eyes
was fire, and it scared her. His eyes locked on her, she felt so weak, so powerless under
him, even though with a simple thought she could throw him from her, she didn’t want to
hurt him.
He gazed down at her, his midnight eyes captured her silver green ones. He saw
many things in her eyes, anger, frustration, care, and fear. ‘NO!’ his mind screamed, she
of all should not fear him, it was the last thing he wanted.
He swallowed hard, and removed himself from her. He held down his hand to help
her up as he stood on shaky legs. Unwillingly she took his hand, she seemed to have no
control over her body, she also longed to touch him again. Tora pulled her up with such
force that she fell against him.
Tora held her there, unable to let her go.Her skin was a smooth as satin, her
flaming hair was like silk as it lightly brushed his hand on her back..Her lips of rose bud
red were just slightly ajar, so inviting, so tempting. His mouth closed down on hers as he
pulled her close, their bodies fitting together like the pieces of a puzzle. She didn’t pull
away she didn’t fight or struggle against him, she opened herself to him, she lost herself to
him..An eruption of emotions filled her, sensations she’d never experienced, and this
terrified her.
Tora tasted and teased her invoking her to be his. She tasted sweeter than honey
she was soft and delicate, yet as he touche her fire filled him. Such passion, wild and
untamed filled him, resinating from her..He felt her hands entangle with his raven hair
and he felt her becoming weak and she was, her legs felt like jelly, as she clutched on to
Tora for support, of which he so willingly gave.
She felt dizzy and light headed, her thoughts where all a mess, she couldn’t control
herself, nor did she want to .She wanted nothing more than to be his, and she became more
terrified by the moment.
“Silver fox I ...” Aliandra stared as Tora and Silver fox finally released each other.
Their breaths were raged, as they gulped for air.
“I...I’m sorry” Aliandra tried to find the right words. Silver fox”s gaze fell on to
Aliandra, and the small nymph gasped. Aliandra became terribly frightened by what she
saw, as she climbed from the water to hold her . Her eyes flashed at Tora , rage and
hatred in them.
“How dare you!”
“I..” He began to step forward.
“Stay where you are!” Aliandra commanded
