Fenrir Part 1
George L Shultz

Prologue

As our story opens a lone man is walking down a dirt road. He is a man of incredible stature. Seven feet tall and 250 pounds, a force to be reckoned with. Clothed in thick, silver armor that once gleamed like the sun but now is scarred and battle worn. He walks with a limp but barely makes any sound. Even though he has lost his eyes to a fire, his eyes; thick globes of scar white, no color to them and no use to them, he can still avoid every rock and hole on this seemingly infinitely long and winding dirt road. His skills, so honed, are like he has been endowed with three eyes of impeccable vision. He carries a sword so great it would put a zanbato to shame. With a length of 6 1\2 feet long and 1 foot wide, its weight at 75 pounds it would take a great man to wield it even near properly. But this man, with his strength so great, could wield it as though it were the lightest of tantos. His hair long and grey indicated that he had been through tough times and many battles. His face is scarred and hard with a look to it as though it once had compassion to it but has been washed away in a bath of blood. His sword radiates power as though the soul of Tyr himself dwelled with in it. His history is one of obscurity only time itself will tell what it is laden with

Chapter 1 the Girl

Our hero was walking down that same road later that day when he heard Help, no, please dont As he heard this he took off at a lightning pace in the direction the sound was coming from. His highly trained ears guiding him to where the cry came from.
No, nooo
He arrived at a clearing. The one who was screaming was a girl. She looked about 15 and was dressed in peasants clothes. She was being attacked by two bandits.
Let her be. He said
Why, were only having some fun, aint that right girly.
Yeah, only some fun, nuttin too bad
Help please. She ran for him and was grabbed by the bandit who spoke first, and was thrown down.
shattup.
Listen said our hero let me have her and we can all be on our way, refuse or make a rash decision and you might regret it.
Regret it! Regret it! Ha, we dont regret nothin, were Bloodletters.
The bandit who just said that just turned around to face his partner; in that split second he was diced into three pieces. His partner had barely any time to scream before he found himself on the ground, his ribs broken from the weight of an armored boot.
No please dont, I the man didnt even get to finish his plea before his head was sliced in two. The young girl had just opened her eyes when she had realized what had just happened.
What how how did you do that.
It doesnt matter how.
He started walking away.
But you saved me. How can I repay you?
You can start by hurrying up.
Your limping did they hurt you.
No they didnt have time. The limp is from an old battle long ago.
Do you have a name?
My name is Fenrir, yours?
My name is Gwyneth.
What were you doing out here?
I was a servant to a high nobleman, who treated me like an animal I was running away from my master when I was attacked.

Chapter 2 the Story

Later that night they set up camp in another clearing they came upon. Fenrir felled several trees for firewood with one mighty swipe of his sword. The sword went through the wood like a hot knife through warm butter. While Fenrir was leveling the forest Gwyneth came upon a small river and found three fish for their dinner. They met back at camp; Gwyneth had a basket of fish while Fenrir was bringing whole trees out of the forest for the fire. By the time it got dark they had a bon fire many stories tall. Gwyneth then took the fish she had caught and carefully cleaned them. Her motions were smooth and gentle.
Then she set three fish on a one of the large rocks surrounding the fire. The fish were cooked through and well. They ate well that night.

The fish is good; I thought something bad would happen while you were catching it. Said Fenrir
What do you mean, Something bad would happen.
Well I thought that the other bandits would meet up with you.
What? You killed them, I saw you.
No I killed two, two out of 200.
What, TWO HUNDRED. Exclaimed Gwyneth
Yes, its a band called the Bloodletters. The reason they are called that is because the old king liked to have a group of highly trained clandestine guard who went around and killed all those who were even suspected of treason weather innocent or not, when he was executed they were all sentenced to death, but in an amazing escape they killed all the guards and burned down the prison. Explained Fenrir
Thats horrible; how do you know all this?
I used to be a kings guard. I lost my eyes to that fire trying to save my mates.
Thats how you lost your eyes? Asked Gwyneth
Yes and later that night they hunted down all the families of the entire kings guard, they slaughtered the whole village, my family included. I couldnt have been much older than you.
Thats horrible.
They slaughtered my whole village. Said Fenrir
Im sorry.
Its fine. We sleep now; we have to get going early tomorrow. Explained Fenrir
As he got ready for sleep he takes off his armor and shirt. As he does this Gwyneth notices how scarred and distraught his body is. It looked as though it had seen a lot of pain, battles and death.
What? Fenrir asked with an impatient grunt.
Your body its
Its nothing, go to sleep

Chapter 3 the Walk

Early the next morning Gwyneth woke two have found that the bon fire had been doused as though it had a surge of water open up directly over it.
Did you put that out? Gwyneth Asked.
Yes, why? replied Fenrir
Well, it looks like the gods opened up the skies upon that fire pit.
It doesnt matter how I put it out, all that matters is that it is out.
But that fire would have burned for days; there were entire trees in there. Stated Gwyneth
She never got an answer. By the time she finished saying stating that it would have burned for days Fenrir was already walking away.
Hurry up! yelled Fenrir
But
I said hurry up; we have to go, Now!
Ok, wait up, Im coming.
They started walking down that road to the unknown destination to where Fenrir was headed.
Where are we headed? Asked Gwyneth
Youll see. Replied Fenrir
After a long time on the road and no conversation Gwyneth attempted to talk again.
Hey Fenrir, can we stop, it seems like we have been walking for hours.
Fenrir stops, drops his mighty sword and looks around; trying to hear for any sounds that would indicate any type of danger.
I see no reason that we cant
They rested for several minutes, Fenrir drew a mighty flask from which he took a mighty gulp then offered some to Gwyneth, who agreed to it and drained the whole thing. They then continued walking. It was a comical sight so see a giant man walking next to a girl almost half of his height.

They continued walking for quite some time until it was almost dark when they reached a town.
Is this it? Asked Gwyneth
Yes were here. Replied Fenrir

Chapter 4 the Gate

As Fenrir and Gwyneth approached the town they came upon a watch man that had fallen asleep. Fenrir approached the watchman and with a booming Greetings Watchman. Scared the man (along with half of the town) out of a peaceful rest. The watchman, startled by this greeting, drew his bow notched an arrow and fired. Fenrir, with his senses so honed, snatched the arrow out of the air, broke it and threw it on the ground. He then proceeded to grab the watchman by the throat and lift him four feet off of the ground. Gwyneth, observing all this, then yelled at Fenrir to drop the man, which he did without hesitance.
Listen mister, Im sorry that happened He shouldnt have surprised you like that
No, you listen. yelled the watchman I dont know How you trained a giant let alone got him to wear armor
Watch who you call a giant. Yelled Fenrir so loudly that it must have woken up the other half of the town.
Fenrir, calm down, Im sorry what where you saying?
Sorry I, Uh, I Was Just a little startled and being lifted kind of just threw me off. Explained the watchman.
Its OK; just consider your self lucky that you didnt get diced by this. Said Gwyneth while tapping on Fenrirs sword, which he was holding in one hand, ready to slice the watchman straight down the middle.
Uh, yes, Um, so can I help you? Inquired the watchman.
You can let us in to the town. said Gwyneth
Oh, yes of course. Said the watchman as he opened the gate at the town.
Go on in and have a nice stay. He said as he smiled politely at Gwyneth
Thanks. Said Gwyneth as she smiled back.
Fenrir just grunted as he walked past the watchman.
What a night. Said the watchman once the two were safely out of earshot and the gate was safely shut. Maybe now I can get some sleep.

Chapter 5 the town\night

After Gwyneth had smooth talked their way out of Fenrir killing the watchman, or having the watchman having them arrested the duo proceeded to walk down the towns main street when Gwyneth said,
Fenrir, you cant do that, its just not right.
He attacked me, I instinctively reacted and it was lucky for him that I didnt do to him what I did to your attackers.
My attackers and an innocent man are two different things, I will forever thank you for saving me but I would never forgive you for killing an innocent man.
He would have brought it on himself. said Fenrir
They continued down the towns main street for a while without talking until Fenrir took a sharp right down an ally and then felt the door with his hand.
Were here. Said Fenrir as he opened the door, He had to duck a full two feet to be able to enter the building.
The building was dimly light and smoky. Fenrir walked up to the keeper of the place and asked for 2 rooms. As he did this he pulled out a large burlap purse full of gold and placed it on the counter. The man quietly nodded, spoke to Fenrir in a quiet voice then asked them to follow him. When they reached the rooms Fenrir asked the keeper to leave. He turned to Gwyneth and said
When you wake up Im not going to be here, But dont leave your room I dont trust this town. Ive been here many years before. But now it has changed for the worst, the room is the safest place.
Where are you going? asked Gwyneth
Its nowhere important to you, here, take this. He said as he slipped a small silver dagger into Gwyneths hand. Use it incase of an emergency.
But Ok.
We need to sleep now. Said Fenrir
Goodnight Said Gwyneth

Chapter 5 the town\dawn

A few hours later Fenrir slipped out of the Inn and quietly made his way down a few streets to another doorway in another alley. Ht then went on to carefully open the door and made his way to another door with a warm glow coming from under the crack. He put his ear up to the crack and listened carefully. He heard voices of a serious conversation.
What did the watchman say?
He said He saw a young girl with a giant following her come into the town Boss.
Good, that means he is here, now all we have to do is find him and the girl.
Replied the bosss voice.
And then what boss?
What do you think. replied the boss sarcastically.
WHAT, how are we gonna do that hes huge! yelled the first henchman
The boss didnt have time to respond before the door was splintered into a thousand pieces and Fenrir rushed in. All three men stood up and the boss yelled kill him!!!
The first henchman proceeded to pull out four throwing knives and threw them without hesitation at Fenrir who immediately deflected them by positioning his sword in front of him and ricocheted all of them into various places in the other henchmans torso. He was dead before he hit the ground.
The Henchman who threw the knives then drew out a small Iron short-sword and lunged at Fenrir, Who then picked up the body of the other henchman and threw it at the man with the short-sword so hard that it broke his right arm, all of his ribs and snapped his neck like a dry twig. The boss, while watching this had drawn a Black steel katana and had assumed a fighting stance and then said.
Impressive, But I had expected more, The General Said I would have to be careful with you but this should be Childs play.
So you expect to intimidate me with and oversized butter knife, well let me tell you Ive already taken out four of you legion commanders. Ive been following you commanders like breadcrumbs to your general and when I get done with you Ill only have two more to go before I take down your pitiful General. But please tell me your name so that when I kill you it will join the other four on my blade.
I am Caramon the commander of the third legion of the Bloodletters. And this oversized butter knife is an Ancient sword than has been cursed with arcane spells that dwell in lands far to the east. Youll never defeat me.
Fenrir Didnt respond he was already leaping through the air battle cry issuing from his lungs ready to crush Caramon into oblivion with his sword when Caramon Raised his sword and when the two swords collided a black cloud formed around Fenrirs Blade and blasted his sword into many pieces and him through a wall.
Ha I told you youd never beat me, Gloated Caramon. And isnt that just too bad. He said as he picked up a shard of Fenrirs sword.
Well just have to put you and your sword to rest. Caramon strode gracefully over to Fenrir and put the point of his sword right under Fenrirs chin.
Good bye Said Caramon gaily.
Just then Gwyneth stepped into the doorway and threw her Dagger directly at Caramon. It looked as though the dagger would hit home when Caramon turned around, sliced the dagger out of the air, and roared
You, well at least this makes killing both of you a little easier now that we dont have to find you.
Caramon stated to stride Gwyneth prepared to strike her down when Fenrir tackled him pried his sword from his hand, then grabbed a shard of his sword off the ground and unceremoniously tore Caramons jugular wide open.
Fenrir then got up picked up Caramons sword and started to walk over to Gwyneth.
Please, no, I had to follow you I thought you would get hurt or worse
Pleaded Gwyneth.
Fenrir Towered over her, glaring at her with the utmost anger. He then proceeded to say in a voice laced with rage
Never disobey what I tell you!
Im sorry, I just needed
I dont care what you needed I told you to stay in you room for a reason you could have been killed.
Im sorry.
Its fine said Fenrir calmly just listen to me next time, its for you own good.
Ok.
Here, you need a weapon, take this Fenrir said as he handed Gwyneth Caramons sword. Be careful, those runes on the side of the sword are extremely powerful. Dont use it unless I tell you to.
OK Replied Gwyneth in a small voice can we go now?

Chapter 6 the town\ day

After Fenrir had finished with Caramon the sun had risen and the shops were beginning to open. Fenrir and Gwyneth were walking down another street when Gwyneth asked
Is that why we came here, so you could kill whats-his-name?
Gwyneth Asked.
His name is Caramon. Remember that. His name is as important as that sword you now carry, and yes that is why we came here.
Fenrir Replied.
So why dont we leave?
Well if you havent noticed Caramon destroyed my sword, I need a new one. And as luck would have it this town is the very town that my sword was forged in. And If I remember right we should be approaching that very smith right now.
Fenrir took a hard left and down a very narrow ally way that he could barely fit in, Feeling the wall for a door.
Ahh, here it is said Fenrir as he opened a small door. The door was so small that Gwyneth had to duck to enter; it was a miracle that Fenrir could fit in it.
Is any body here shouted Fenrir who was kneeling down and his head still touched the ceiling.
What, what, what do you want? came a nasally voice from another room. If I told you Bloodletters once Ive told you a thousand times I dont do business with your kind Then the voice came into the room.
A dwarf, I thought They where a myth! Exclaimed Gwyneth.
We are most certainly not a myth, and youre looking at the best smithy in the whole world. explained the dwarf. My name is Oslo, at your service.
Through this whole explanation the dwarf did not seem to notice the very large man kneeling on the floor and still touching the ceiling.
Oslo, I need a sword.
The dwarf seemed surprised at the sudden appearance of the voice.
He did a quick little jump at the sound of the voice and turned to face Fenrir.
Oh Fenrir, what can I do for you my boy? Asked the dwarf
The sword you forged for me many years ago was broken by this he said as he gently took Caramons sword from Gwyneth.
Well its no wonder It broke, you see those runes on the side, and those runes make this sword practically invincible. Stated Oslo with an air of smug wisdom.
Can you make my sword again only with these runes on it? Asked Fenrir
NO, I can do better than make it almost invincible. With some runes that have been held in the family for centuries I can make it completely invincible But it will cost you. Stated Oslo
Oslo, do you remember that favor I did you many years ago?
What oh yes that favor, Ill get right on it
Hey Fenrir, what favor. Asked Gwyneth with a nudge
Dont worry about it. Said Fenrir calmly
Come Back In a little while and your sword will be done

Chapter 7 the town\dusk

Many hours later Fenrir and Gwyneth returned to Oslos forge they found him standing next to a sword slightly larger than Fenrirs last sword. It glowed a fierce red resonating from the blade.
Here Fenrir, All done, Now the hard part, getting it out the door
Thank you Oslo, this sword is many times better than your last. Said Fenrir
What can I say, I get better every time.
Bye Oslo Waved Gwyneth
Fenrir was already out the door.
Fenrir and Gwyneth were already out of the town by the time it got dark.
Where are we going to go now Fenrir? Asked Gwyneth
Now we have to hunt down the other two commanders before we get to the general of the bloodletters Replied Fenrir
As they walked away one might notice that Fenrir had gently placed his hand on Gwyneths shoulder.
Remember Always listen to what I tell you and dont get killed
I will
They both secretly knew that Gwyneth would never listen to Fenrirs EVERY word, but they both knew she would never let her self OR Fenrir ever get hurt.
