Let Me Be Martine Hayes
Take away these fearful flutters which roar their hungry ugliness
too desperate to signify my past, so bold and prominent to remind me of what I could not
change, yet again, and again.
Tear away these dark sadening memories or at least let me choose to forget, they only
scorn me when I remember, when I choose to weaken to their beckoning.
For when I sit or walk amongst the present, how can I see and not be blinded by what
should not have been?
Let me see the person who sits beside me or walks behind, let me not judge through what
has been so.
Let me forget to remember, leave me in peace.
The suffering is gone, take leave and find your shelter elsewhere amongst those who wish
to remember, let me be, I have no need nor want in re-visiting.
Yet still you impose, to torment the healing scars. Let them mend in my comfort.
Let me forget. I need you not.
