The Child Within, A Collection of Verse

The Child Within

Listen to the sounds of joy that stir within each heart

Spontaneous and free, it’s how we all start.

Untainted and unhampered, pure as breezes flow

As we grow we still retain the vibrant inner glow.

Keep young, forever singing the freedom of the soul

Your music universal shall eternally console.

Spread your carefree seeds bursting with energy

So full of life and magic, your spirit forever free.

Rhapsody

Touch my chords of varied hue

Play me until I blend with you

Reach the depths of my arduous soul

whose moods only your melodies can control.

Let our rhythms merge as our music meets

With diverse harmonies, uneven beats.

Let our hearts blend and palpitate

with staccato temperament or a steady rate.

As winds blow gentle or meander with change

Essence is but one that we rearrange.

But no time or composition can alter the song

whose message and feeling linger eternally strong.

Renewal (#1)

Creatures big and small must pay the price

With each life must come death’s sacrifice.

Once again the cycle must repeat

Another mating season now complete.

Enemies among the underworld

Multiply and die with seeds unfurled.

Darkness soon melts into light

Then emerges protection from the blotted night.

Destiny and mysteries untold

Lurk beneath the ocean’s beauty, manifold.

Grasshopper

You’re green, so innocent just like me

Some things in life you just fail to see.

You flit to directions like a butterfly

All you can do forever is to try.

Your efforts and heart will they ever land?

Your stature is small but your ambitions grand.

Your hopes are trying to survive

You’re almost squashed, but you stay alive...

The night

The night beckons, cold, alone

Your body shivers, your heart like stone.

She left you there as friends, not more

Where you’d been stranded searching before.

She’s engrained deep, beyond this blotted night

That memory shines with eternal light.

The magnet between souls, its power shall endure

Unshattered like the sun dazzling and pure.

So don’t be afraid of the shadows so black

the rainbow’s smiles will always come back.

As the night awakens to another day

Remember this sunset never fades away.

Cobwebs

Tangled in the corners of my mind

like gnarled knots in my heart you’ll find...

They gather dust or maybe trap flies

Unlike love they mask without disguise.

No fears or darts are hidden there

Of deep entanglement one need not beware.

No binding fetters lie within this mesh

No temptations of soul or flesh.

Only beauty woven by this thread

Whose detailed patterns only with harmony they wed.

A lace trampoline fragile and yet strong

Can be torn apart like love

yet is an indestructible bond.

A spider’s trap to feed upon its prey

Yet harmless to those from whom its clutches stray.

Not all are victims of its maze

Survivors all are we of life’s mysterious ways.

One ruthless sweep can easily destroy

A home or was it just another ploy?

No thorns, just softness that you weave

A trap meant to entice or to deceive.

A nest where protection can be snug

or shattered by invasion from a bug.

An enemy upon your cozy territory

May be seduced but you’ll never catch me!

A tapestry destroyed and then removed

God’s gifts rebuilt can always come unglued.

A miracle of birth and death unfold

None can guess or control what destiny holds.

Creators infinite all are we

Fulfilling a purpose in God’s mighty tapestry.

Like webs and cycles that repeat

Death eternal shall never be complete.

Water’s Song

Longingly you stretch for miles

Hungrily you lap beneath sun’s smiles.

Playfully your shimmer swallows me

As I watch you calmness I am empty, free.

Nature’s dance is simple, so serene

The champagne air lingers crisp and clean.

The breeze beckons as it softly blows

leading to paths where only our Creator knows.

Fresh, firm bodies lie upon the beach

Answers always lurk beyond my reach.

None dare to capture, just enrapture me

as I wait for no end to this eternity.

Children play upon these sands of time

as I miss innocence that was once so sublime.

The sunshine cannot fill my lonely hole

It warms my body but cannot touch my soul.

To me, touch is worth more than gold

But nowhere can I find a heart to hold.

Waves (#1)

Gentle waves are trapped upon a rocky shore

Pounding their fists repeatedly as love yearns forevermore.

There’s no escape from endless patterns, soft or cruel

As hearts also never follow any rule.

Tossed and tousled by wind’s furious gale

that moan and seem to tell a lonely tale

Beaten and yet they always rise again

As rainbows wash away cloud’s bitter rain

Powerful and yet not in control

Another symbol of one eternal soul.

Cycles

Hey fragile leaf

being swept away

by the rushing stream

Let me rescue you.

Hey tender child

being plunged into

a frenzied world

Let me nurture you

in this whirlpool of life.

Hey old person,

let me re-plant you

It’s time to move on.

Tempest

The storm unfurls

and trees protest

in frenzied convulsions

their struggling arms

madly swaggering

intoxicated by the wind.

The grass glares back

indignantly at the trees

and no blame is cast

upon the breeze.

Then all of a sudden

after the rain

there is no anger,

no pain.

The bitterness

is washed away,

the peace, the sun

are here to stay.

In My Father’s House

A fragile thing is life, yet we

Take for granted death’s eternity.

Fleeting, like a butterfly

Are the ties between this earth and I.

An old man waits impatiently

With fear until his soul is free.

The body, a cage that won’t endure

His gaze is blank and yet unsure.

Wrinkles gently worn with care

Only faint recognition is written there.

Is that a hint of an oozing smile?

Have human efforts been worthwhile?
Stooped with age’s joy and pain

Wondering how much more suffering will remain?

Eternal sleep evades him now

Through life and death , we survive somehow.

His mind and body take a rest

Preparing to leave life’s cozy nest.

No longer protected by the womb’s cocoon

Knowing it is time to let go soon.

As we leave and say goodbye

The old man’s memory shall never die.

Goodnight, my friend may you rest in peace

As the soul surrenders to God’s release.
