The story of The Man

Part One: Trusting the family

He breathed slowly. One million thoughts circled around in his head, just taunting him. He was used to this as it was the same feeling that he had every time before a big show but not as big as this. He flicked his hair back and sat up straight against the wall. He thought, sighed then thought again about his life, what he had accomplished to become what he was today, he thought about Amy. He didn’t want to be an old man and brag about his life story so he just thought about it, the story dates back to his childhood.

Tony marvelled at what was before him. The slams, grapples, punches, kicks and taunting where all new things to the young boy. He blinked as fast as he could so he would not miss a minute of the action-taking place. He looked closely as his father signalled for his finisher move, the big leg drop. Tony was so infused with the fight that he jumped out of his chair and chanted the 3 count with the audience. All that the boy could do was to scream, “yes” at the top of his voice over and over again. He immediately ran to his father’s arms on the outside of the ring “I guess you liked it then?” said the father while taking off his gloves. “Yeah daddy you rule ass!!” said Tony giving his father a big hug. But just then Tony fell asleep on his fathers shoulder; the midnight action had been a lot for the young boy. The father carried his child into the changing rooms and put him on a bench with a training bag for support on his head. He looked over to one of his fellow wrestlers. “I still haven’t got the heart to do it” said the father. “What?” said the other wrestler as Tony’s eyes opened. “To tell him that it’s all fake” Tony’s eyes opened fast and burst out with tears. When the father looked back at Tony he was gone. He ran back into the corridor but Tony was gone.

Tony breathed slowly inside the security of his own room. The last longing memories of the time when he was 5 years old lingered in him, the tragic memories of a dream shattered by a loved one. Wrestling was not part of his life anymore, his band known as Wipeage was his pride and joy. He only did well in his music and his physical education. After what he called as the disaster of his life, Tony liked to exaggerate things; he was found by an orphanage worker and was taken there until he was re homed. No one knew about his real parents, it helped that they lived in another county. As far as he was concerned he had everything he needed in his new life. The knocks on his door informed him of another school day. “Hey skip time to get up” said the deep voice of his stepfather. “I’’ma coming!” Tony lifted himself out of his bed and began to begin his routine of the day. Getting dressed was first on the agenda, he had learnt how to get dressed quickly after all the years of practising. He rushed downstairs to the comfort of his family; around the front room were his mother and father along with his brother. The house of which he lived in was cheap but livened up with gold and red colours almost filling the room. The smell of oatmeal filled the room full of a taste that Tony did not like. He decided to just take a breakfast bar and left with his bag on shoulder. As he was about to leave his brother shouted some words at him “see you in school bitch”. “Okay Richey boy!” Richard was always grossly tall for his age. At 15 he was already 6 foot 5 inches tall and shows no signs of stopping height. Tony walked out with a smile on his face and starting to walk to school, most kids took the bus but he found that walking to school woke him up more. The school bus went by and picked up the kids on his road. As the bus left after many children mocked and taunted him for being an outsider, he noticed that someone was missing. Tony looked down the empty road when the bus left. He saw one of the most popular girls in the school rush out of her house only to realise that she had missed her way to school. Tony felt his emotions starting to boil; this girl was the object of his affection. Her long black hair and silky skin, the beautiful blue eyes were like a magnet to many of the boys of the school. Although Tony almost loved this girl he hadn’t had the guts to talk to her yet. He didn’t even know her name. This was the ideal situation to talk to her in his mind, no friends or teachers, no distractions or her boyfriend who is the beef head of the school. He gathered up his thoughts and walked over. She saw him walking over and shouted “what do you want” it seemed as if she was crying. Tony froze but said the first things that came to mind “hey… you wanna like. go..walk to school”. The girl rolled her eyes back and frowned “you’d better not be hitting on me you… you freak!” Tony tried to respond as quickly as possible “just as mates, it’s alright to walk to school, I know no one wants to be seen with me, we’ll take separate roads before we get in so no one will have to know okay?” The girl nodded and smiled “cool, I’m Amy, what’s your name?” Tony kept his cool but inside he felt great “I’m Tony”.
“I feel so sorry for you” said Amy after a long story by Tony about his life. Tony just nodded and carried on the conversation “it’s been really cool talking to you but we gotta split up, schools coming up”. Amy just smiled “you can walk in with me, It’ll make some gossip but it’ll blow off” Tony could hardly believe his ears but he agreed “I heard you sing a couple of days ago, meet me at lunch cos’ I think you’ll sound good with my band” she smiled at the idea as the duo began to walk into the school yard, half way into the school yard full of gossiping teenagers they split up so they could go to their own friendship groups. On Amy’s side it was full of disbelief but on Tony’s side he was more like a hero. Tony assured his friends that it was only a friend thing. He smiled all the way to class as his best friend Ben walked with him. They liked to talk a lot, about things in the future and what they wanted to do in their life. Ben obviously heard about today’s news and just had to ask about the situation. “What about her beef head eh?” Ben joked as he walked through the classroom door. Tony’s face dropped as reality hit him, he had never thought about Amy’s boyfriend. The thought of it lingered in his head, his name was Will and he was captain of England’s under 20 rugby team. He was 18 and Tony was no match for him at the age of 15. Tony knew his agenda with Amy, he wanted her no doubt about it but big Will was an obstacle. He decided that going for Amy wasn’t an option “we’re friends that’s all” he thought to himself. His mind drifted several times in the class and it was debatable whether he learned anything or not. Tony was almost in a state of daydream. What woke him up was the ring of the bell acknowledging the end of the lesson and the start of lunchtime. As soon as the rest of the class ran out, Tony and Ben gathered up their books and threw them into their bags. They stumbled out of the classroom door into the corridor outside surrounded by metal lockers and other classroom doors. As soon as he stepped into the hallway a sudden pain rushed into his stomach, he had been attacked. He fell to the floor and as he looked up he could see a crowd of teenagers but more importantly the leader Will. The sound almost deafened him but it quietened down while Will spoke “think you can mess with me punk!! You got no chance with my girl bitch!!” Tony looked at the crowd; he could see Amy shouted for Will to stop. Will summoned Tony to fight and he was going to, Tony would never back down. He kept his balance and looked at Amy, she just frowned and looked away. Will walked slowly toward Tony, every step built up the tension circling around the crowd. Tony breathed in slowly as Will was only one metre away from him. The anger within Tony unleashed as he threw himself at Will, shoulder first knocking him to the floor. Tony then picked up Will and body slammed him into the set of lockers next to the classroom door. This sudden rush of power silenced the already silent audience, but Wills friends had seen enough. They moved forward through the crowd and began their so-called work on Tony. Ben was reluctant to save him as Tony was receiving a 5 on 1 beating but Tony had more loyalty than he thought. Amy and Ben tried to stop the beating; the man who played his part was the brother Richard. He threw many of the fighters into lockers and walls; eventually he found Tony left in a crumpled heap.

“Hi my name is Amy, can I see Tony please?” Richard smiled “I remember you, you helped right!” Amy smiled as she was led into the clean house of Turney. The red scarf around her neck was placed nicely on the sofa near the door. Both parents were not present as they were at their respective workplaces. “He’s just up the stairs”. Amy climbed the stairs to her destination, the person of whom she loved. These new feelings hit her when she saw the fight between Will and Tony. A set of feelings of which she had been bursting to tell him ever since he came home from the hospital. She grasped the handle of the door and turned it slowly as the anticipation was filling her with excitement. She peeped through the door only to see Tony-lifting weights. She walked slowly in and spoke silently “hiya how are you?” Tony stopped and laid his weights gently on the floor. He looked around “heya I’m fine, been expelled” Amy’s face drowned in sorrow “I heard, I got a question to ask you, well 2 actually” she stuttered. Tony looked directly into her eyes trying to solve what she had to say. “Shoot, sit down if ya like” Amy quickly sat down on the chair in front of Tony’s bed. “I’ve been thinking about it and I really want to be your girlfriend” the expression on Tony’s face said it all, the huge smile that reached ear to ear soon rubbed on to Amy “come here!” Amy jumped on Tony’s bed and was consumed in his arms. “What was your other question?” She scraped the smile off her face and spoke “ can I be in your band, please!!” Tony just smiled and nodded slowly as the new couple shared their first kiss.

The class was restless, the set of fat and obese students were very disappointed, and as it didn’t strike them that it would take more than a week to become in the same physical condition as their trainer. The class left grumbling as they charged through the entrance door of the fitness arena. He sat down in the lunch area after evening hours and the centre was shut down for the night. He sighed slowly and awaited his pick up. He walked outside and looked at the parking lot outside the fitness centre. He flipped his mobile phone and quickly tapped the numbers within. “Hiya babe, you comin’ to pick me up?” “I’m already there!!” he looked again and realised where his ride was. He ran over and kissed the person inside and climbed in. “how was work today?” He looked at his black haired beauty. “Well you know Amy, life is shit!” The journey to their apartment was long; it was in the outskirts of the city. When they arrived they parked outside the set of apartments and entered their home. It was neat and tidy, smelled of a fresh sense and seemed to greet anyone who entered. Tony threw his shirt onto the floor and collapsed onto the cheap sofa. Amy just laughed, “It took me almost two hours to clean this place up”. Tony just looked and grinned. “I’ll get some beer for you”. Tony nodded against the sofa and looked at the television. Amy sat on top of Tony and put the beer on his back “try and get it now haha” Tony flipped over, knocking the glass over but putting his big arms around Amy giving her a hug. “Hold on, there wasn’t any beer!” Amy’s smile grew “I know your gonna have to go get some, I feel like getting’ drunk tonight”. He rolled his eyes back and grabbed his shirt. He left down the road with the feel of coins in his hand and fatigue resting in him. As he walked down the road to the local shop he noticed a lot of ruckus coming from a house. Being a suspicious man he decided to check it out. He climbed over a fence leading to a basement door, which seemed to be generating of the noise. He ripped open the door and looked inside. All he saw was plenty of well built men who seemed to be shouting at something, on closer inspection he could see a ring and two fighters. It seemed to be a dirty basement and illegal pit of fighting. Just as Tony’s face filled with disgust and was about to leave someone stopped him. “Well I haven’t seen that face for awhile have I?” Tony looked at the opposer but it seemed to be just his school friend Ben. Tony sighed heavily, regained his breath and then spoke “Whatcha doing here!?” Ben just laughed, “I work here, dumbass!”
“I’ve got a huge favour to ask of ya” said Ben face down. Ben had dragged Tony into the changing rooms of his so-called job. “Let me guess you want some money eh?” Tony replied with extreme prejudice. He pulled out his wallet but that didn’t seem to be the solution “I need you to wrestle tonight, with me in a tag match, just pull off some fake slams and taunts and we’ll be home dry” Tony exploded in anger “I will not be a fake!!!” he screamed at the top of his voice. His comrade slicked his red-gelled hair back and stood up, looking at Tony. “Please just help, I’ll lose my job if you don’t”. Tony walked around and around thinking until his decision was fully made. “I’ll do it but you owe big time”. Ben’s face brightened.
“The main event ladies and gentlemen, a tag team match with an unknown competitor!!” shouted the announcer. Ben walked out into the ring with Tony close behind, making taunts while they entered the ring. Their opponents were already in the ring. Tony was first up.
