Genesis Conclusion Ch 1
Aura

Chapter One: Stage One of Two

The Genial Bracelets PART 1

Hello, I’m Aura Frazier and I live in the center of the world, New York City. It is a great place to visit and such but living here can be a pain. Though, I shouldn’t complain, I live in a pretty big house in a gated community on Staten Island. I have long ebony hair—no wait, I wonder if just saying black would be better, I just don’t get it, isn’t ebony and black the same thing? Or is it better to say ebony because it makes you sound smarter? Well, whatever it is, it makes no sense to me. I’ve noticed that my hair has developed a tint of deep blue all over. It kind of freaked me out at first and I wondered how I was going to explain it but I didn’t have to; everyone I knew noticed it and complimented me on such a perfect hair dye. Of course I let them go with that idea and just stood there with a smile on my face. I’m about 5’7 I have tanned skin, black eyes and even though some people would argue until they turn purple that it’s just ‘“very dark brown” ’ I’m not going to waste my time on such trivial things. I have a slim figure I suppose I could say slim but not super model slim, whatever that really means. Some models are anorexic slim and some are pretty darn close. Nasty.

I had gotten out of bed about a half hour ago and now I’m making breakfast. It’s a bit strange being here all by my self but I’m use to it by now. I’m 18—no scratch that. I’m 17 now but my birthday is just under a month away. This is yet another birthday that my dad might miss. I don’t blame him at all, he needs to work and he gets so wrapped up in it that he forgets that he even has a family.

I don’t understand why he bought this place it’s only the two of us and he went out and bought this seven bedroom estate. I say ‘estate’ because that’s what the people call it and that’s what it actually is. I’m not going to go on about this place because it’s not in my nature to do so.

I sat down at the table in the kitchen and ate the eggs and bacon I made and for the first time I am not eating cereal—oh my god change!

I looked around and a twinge of loneliness crept into my heart. My mom supposedly died when giving birth to me. When I was young I would constantly ask about my mother and that’s what I was told; that she died when I was born but I never thought that was right. There are a lot of secrets that is kept in my family and I know for a fact that the information regarding my mother is all false. I stopped bringing up the subject when I was old enough to understand what the strange faces my relatives were making meant. It was uneasiness, nervousness, and a bit of frustration too.

I grabbed my school bag when I finished breakfast and opened the door that lead to the four car garage. Again, this is yet another feature of this ‘estate’ that I don’t understand; we have two cars mine and my father’s. Now there is only one car because my father, as you know, isn’t here. I just don’t get what he was thinking, not at all. I grabbed my car keys and pressed the auto start, a feature that is very convenient. I closed my eyes as my car started; the sound of the Dodge Viper GTSR’s V-10 engine’s roar was a sweet caress to my ears. My father, on a whim, told me that I could have it costumed made and so I did. It’s metallic blue with two silver strips going from the trunk to the hood and I added a back row for my friends. I got into the car and pressed the button to open the garage then I drove out on my way to school on a Saturday field trip.

Hi, I’m Amanda Foote and I’m a 20yr old still living at home! I’m about 5’11; yes I am beanpole material, black hair, brown eyes, and medium build? I hate talking about my appearance. My house is located in Staten Island, New York. Yes, the best place in the world or so this mug I’m looking at says. I got up incredibly early this Saturday morning to make breakfast for my family. We are a family of five—originally 6 but my father was killed some years ago. I have three sisters Katherine 11, Amber 10, and last but not least Tyra 8, and then there’s my mom and I.

I’m running around my house like a nut and my friend, Alicia Rebelo 21, lovely years old, just arrived. I think she’s still mad because I called her an old lady—oh well. She’s about 5’6, blonde hair, blue eyes, her skin is pretty pale and she doesn’t like it too much.

Today, we are both getting picked up by friends just two of them. Actually, they should be arriving pretty soon and I STILL can’t find my shoes. Why is it that you can never find certain things like: one foot of a sock, the TV remote, car keys and shoes? It’s really maddening I’ve checked every spot I can think of.

“Did you check the couch?” Alicia says.

“Now why the hell would they be in—” Yeah, there they were right under the couch. I stopped wondering about these things and just accepted it as just is. I grabbed a bagel and spread cream cheese on it then stuffed it into my mouth while I tied my shoes. Katherine and Tyra began arguing about some nonsense that I didn’t want to hear about and I went on a yelling spree while Alicia giggled at the scene in front of her.

“For Christ sake—cut it out! Katherine, just give her what she wants!”

“But it’s not fair, I had this first!” She says and I roll eyes trying to keep sane and they keep going even louder this time.

“Don’t make me come out there because you won’t like it when I’m out there!” My mother says from the back of the house where her room is. I sighed as the arguing instantly stop; or rather becomes more of a silent fight.

“You think I don’t know you two are still fighting? You’re not animals so stop acting like it! You’re sisters you’re suppose to love each other!” She continues and I wish she would tell me how she knows things without looking. Is it something you develop after you pop out a kid? I really want to know this, it could be useful.

“How does she do that?” My sisters and I say in unison while Alicia laughed some more. Amber was watching TV in the living room while this whole scene played out. How can she peacefully sit there in the middle of all this? I guess ignorance is truly bliss.

Finally, I heard a car’s horn right outside my house and Alicia and I was outside before anyone was the wiser. We got into the back seat and greeted both Tina Kirkland and Brian Green. Tina is 20 yrs old and black hair braided and pulled back into a pony tail. She has dark skin and an attitude to rivals anyone’s. Brian is 23 stands around 6ft, and an all over fade, has dark skin and is a practical joker.

“Hey, Bitches!” Tina says as we get in. We smile at her and put on our seatbelts.

“Hey Alicia, what’s up Mandee? You guys ready to go?”

Tina cranked up the volume to the stereo and drove off to our destination.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I pumped up the volume in my Viper which caused me to instinctively press harder on the gas. I cruised through the light traffic like there wasn’t anyone on the road. I suppose you can say that I’m an aggressive driver but it’s not like I care. Finally, I arrive at school to see all of the charter buses lined up in front and I drive around towards the student parking lot. I waved at those who called out to me as I went by and thanked the Gods that I found a quick parking space. I collected the things I needed like my cell phone and my purse that had my drivers license, lip gloss or what have you.

Three faces appeared in my driver’s side window which scared the bejesus out of me. I opened my door and got out to meet my friends and these three were the last people I thought would ever be my friends. First is Miranda, she is what you might call the ring leader. She has long blonde hair in a high ponytail, well tanned skin, pink skirt and a white top that shows more of her curves then it should. She’s about 5’6 and wore her pink Gucci sunglass and white stiletto sandals. I have no idea how she can possibly stand in them. Second, came Lina, She is 5’5, platinum blonde hair with hair accessories designed throughout the style. She wore tan khakis and a white tank top with sneakers. Lastly, there is Kristy, a 5’6 red head; she wore blue mini jean shorts, V-neck tank top and kitten heels. I guess these three don’t know the difference between a school trip and a fashion show.

How is it that these three became such good friends of mine? Oh yes, that’s right they are in love with my uncle. Isn’t that nice? They were using me to get to him. How shallow can some people get? Well, these three were the last people I wanted as enemies since I was new to the school so I ignored it and went on. Next thing you know we are out shopping together, eating together, having slumber parties and it hits me that they have actually brought me into their circle. I let them know from the start that I am a tomboy inside and out and I won’t change no matter what. They seemed fine with it and we slowly became closer as best friends—kind of.

We boarded the bus, I sat next to Lina and we shared I pods once in a while to hear what the other is listening to. When the busses stopped I took a good look around when I got outside and wondered if we were still on Staten Island. We were virtually in the middle of nowhere; there are just fields of grass and cattails as far as the eye can see. In the middle of all this free space was one of the biggest buildings I’ve seen on the island. It looked like it belonged in the city standing proud and tall. The building’s property was professionally done and looked so out of place.

This is a science laboratory that is full of mysteries but now all of a sudden its doors were wide open to the masses. The building has large windows and a big fountain that shoots water from its center. Though I could hear some “oh’s” and “ah’s” from the other students I got a creepy feeling from this place. I felt like something was telling me to run as far as I could out of there.

When I looked towards the door I could see lots of people lining up. There were so many people and I couldn’t help but stare at them all. “Why are there so many people?”

“Don’t tell me that you haven’t heard Aura.” Lina says while putting an arm around my shoulders. I have to admit out of the three of them I like her best; she was so laid back in a girly kind of way but still laid back. Even though I was part of their inner circle, I still kept my guard up at all times. They are the most popular girls in school known for being cruel and cold blooded. They always got their way even if it was unfair to the rest of the world. Me being the new meat in town I had to think fast about my options. Before they could pick me raw my uncle stepped in without having a clue that he just saved my student life. The fact of the matter is; I truly don’t trust them but it is not like I’m going to say that out loud.

“Well rumor has it that they have invented new technology. This technology will change the way people live forever; though it’s not concrete yet or so I heard.” Lina continued to inform me. I must’ve been standing there with a “what the hell?” written on my face cause she blushed and looked away from me. I mean what WAS that? Why did she all of a sudden sound so genius—like? I felt a hand on my head and looked over at my teacher. He smiled at me and walked ahead in front of us. “Well… Miss Frazier I see that you haven’t been paying much attention in my class. If you were then you wouldn’t be asking such questions.”

Oh hell, he was right about that, this kind of topic isn’t boring at all. So why is it that I wasn’t listening? I glanced at Miranda, Kristy, and Lina and felt my brain deflate; that must be it, I’ve been spending way too much time with those girls. Their empty headedness was becoming contagious and I didn’t stand a chance...

The teacher stood in front of us and calmly pushed back his glasses. He, to me, was a very nice and interesting guy. He wasn’t all that strict nor was he too loose; he was just one of those teachers that made learning fun and interesting no matter what it was. He scratched his head and then fixed back his blonde hair. Sometimes I hated it when he would look in my direction because he had those deep blue eyes that cause you to blush. Or is that just me? “Now, listen up cause this is truly amazing stuff.” He began to speak gaining everyone’s attention as he led us to the door. “INTECH Corp. has developed something called SubTech. It’s also known as Substitute Technology, which means, that they have invented a way to substitute parts of Mother Nature.”

Okay, what? Can we, as humans, do that? Substitute Mother Nature? Isn’t that dangerous? My God something like this can cause big trouble between the government and the church, wouldn’t it? Am I thinking too ahead of myself? I really don’t like the way this is going but the more I hear the more I want to know about the mysterious INTECH Corp.

Finally we were let in and it looks just like one of those high-end office buildings that only the super rich can walk through. It has extra large and long tinted windows and the floors were so shiny and clean I can actually see my face reflected in it. As we walked further in I noticed that there is a balcony which led to a set of spiral staircases. The design was immaculate and awe inspiring. The crowd was split and directed down the really long staircases. Lina grabbed onto me and I let her do so without a fight or much else; I didn’t like to be held to tightly but with her excitement I let it slide.

When we got to the bottom floor we met up with the tour guide. He seemed too happy to see us. His smile, to me, seemed bigger then his face I think his name was Gil or something of the like. He was wearing a white lab coat and brought us towards a large set of double doors. Our class was mixing in with the outside crowd but I suppose that was fine since we were all there. Before we were allowed in Gil began passing out something but before I could find out what it was my phone began to vibrate and I started searching for it. I started pulling out everything from my purse and it slipped out and fell on the floor. My heart stopped and it felt like time slowed down to cause me more agonizing pain watching my beloved phone fall to it’s supposed doom. Before I got to come to its rescue it was kicked right from my hands! No! This can’t be! I ran after it and it seemed so did the person that kicked it and I’m not sure when nor how but we both toppled into the side doors with a small headache. “Goddamn! That hurts!” I heard her say. I looked up rubbing my forehead and apparently so was she. She reached over and grabbed my phone then handed it to me. “Ah, I’m sorry about that. I’m sure it still works.” She said to me with a smile. Okay… Just who was this nice phone killer anyway?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

When did I become such a klutz anyway? According to Brian, I always was. That fool; I wouldn’t be on the floor with pain through my head if it weren’t for him. But I had other problems at the moment. I reached over and grabbed the cell phone I had accidentally kicked. I checked it over quickly then handed it to the girl I ran into. “Ah, I’m sorry about that. I’m sure it still works.” I hope it works because I’m too broke to pay for any damages no matter how small. I smiled at her hoping she’s friendly and I got back on my feet. I gave her my hand so I could help her up. “I’m Amanda.” “I’m Aura and no worries about the phone its okay; hardly a scratch.” She says while holding it up for me to see. I released a happy sigh and she smiled to me.

I turned slightly when I thought I heard my name and I was right Alicia was calling out for me. I went to the door we both fell into and cracked it open a bit. “It would be bad if we are caught in here. They’ll never believe that we fell in here.” I said to Aura and I turned to see her nod and I caught Alicia’s attention and she sneaked over and covered for me while I made my way out. “Hey, I’ll see you around okay. Have fun!”

I was out of there with Alicia chewing off my ear until Tina and Brian came over telling me how board they were listening to Gil mouth on and on. I saw Aura’s head peeking out and smiling at me when they dragged me away through a door that clearly read ‘Authorized personal only’. I’m not going to even ask how they got the door open in the first place. We went down the metal staircase a few floors down and out through the door.

The light was so strong and wind that blew on my face was very humid. This was a serious change from the air conditioned building we were just in a moment ago. The door closed behind us and it went unnoticed; instead our eyes were wide opened in shock and awe at what we were seeing. It was as if we were transported to the Amazon jungle and I went and tugged on a faun to see if it was real.

“Maybe we should keep the door slightly opened just in case we have to make a quick exit. We’re not even supposed to be in here.” Tina says as she turned towards the door we just came out of and she began to rattle the knob. “Oh my God it’s locked! Why is it locked?”

I walk over and looked through the narrow window and turned the knob but it didn’t move at the other side. “Ah, I get it… It only locks at one side. How crappy is that?”

Tina was on the verge of freaking out and Brian was being himself and cracking jokes to calm the situation. It always worked without a hitch and I was laughing until my stomach ached. Alicia went ahead on the trail first and I went after her with Tina and Brian close behind. I looked up and noticed that we weren’t outside but rather inside a very large facility. I thought it was amazing because the trees seemed so big and that bright light that confused me wasn’t the sun but some kind of artificial one. I was more then amazed at what I saw. “Hey guys! Come here quick!” Alicia called out to us and we came to see her pointing to some kind of building just across a bridge.

“Maybe there’s a way out in there! We could at least check.” Alicia says and I agreed with her while Tina and Brian wasn’t so sure if that was a good idea. “Okay, listen, I know that it might seem like a horrible idea but come on. We can’t get caught in here like this and besides what else can we do? Do you two have a better idea?” I said as I crossed my arms over my chest and they looked at each other and the faces they made were all I needed.

We headed over the bridge and Tina stopped to look down into the murky water. “Hey, how deep do you guys think this is?” Brian looked at her and gave her a smirk. “Why don’t you jump in and see?” I cracked a smile at this and Tina made a sour face at him. “Oh? Are you gonna jump in and save me if something happens?”

“Tch.” Brian said back to her. “I ain’t no hero. You’re on your own with that.”

Alicia laughed as she reached the other side and looked back at him. “Okay, so you’re saying that you wouldn’t help us if something happened?”

“No, what I’m saying is, if you see me, all of a sudden, running in the other direction you better take the hint and run too!” He said it with the most serious expression and we all laughed till we were short of breath. “What?! I’m being serious! I swear, every time I’m serious you people think I’m kidding.” I leaned on the metal rail while holding my stomach, which was aching from laughter. I wiped my eyes and looked at the water; something inside me made me feel like I was being watched. I shook my head and moved from the rail with a very ugly feeling that made my body shudder.

I got to the door and before I touched the knob Brian stopped me. “Oh? You wanna go in first to see if it’s safe?” He gave me a shocked look. “Hell no! Are you crazy? I wanted you to see through the window first to see if anyone’s inside before you get us into trouble.” Alicia and Tina covered their mouths to muffle their laughter as I gave him my own sour face and he looked away from me. I tried to look through but it was no good; it was too tinted to see inside. I went to the door and it opened which made all of us happy and we slowly went inside then spotted an elevator. We went inside and it started to go up before I pressed a button which freaked me out. I leaned against the back of the elevator next to Tina then spotted something new on her wrist. I happened to glance at Brian’s wrist too; he has the same thing but in another color, then Alicia’s; it was the same for her as well. It was a bracelet with some jewels embedded in it. It looked really pretty and I found myself feeling left out. “Hey, where did you guys get those bracelets from? I want one!”

Tina looked down at it and smiled at me. “They gave it to everybody at the door but you were gone remember? Where did you go anyway?”

I made a face at the ground as I remembered that girl named Aura. I’m not sure why but I have a feeling that I’ll be seeing her again someday and I hope so too. She seems like a cool person to me but it’s too early to say something like that since I don’t know her. I felt my hair being pulled; it was one strand of hair and it hurt like hell. Why is it, when you pull on one strand it’s very painful and a paper cut can make even a grown man cry but a gash is more tolerable? It’s just as strange as this place we’re in now. I looked up at Tina, who had her eyebrow up at me. I knew what the question was. She was wondering if I was listening and to tell the truth. I wasn’t. I took a breath as the elevator doors opened. I was kind of glad they did so I wouldn’t have to worry about any more questions.

We poked our heads out first and walked out happily when we saw that no one was around. “Ugh… what’s that smell? It’s kind of stuffy.” I walked ahead as Tina kept complaining about the smell and Brian agreed. “Yeah, it smells like something died in here.”

The elevator closed its doors and left the floor we were on. Alicia tried to catch it but it was as if it ignored her completely. “What the hell? I guess we’re stuck here for now.” She says with a slight irritation. I rolled my eyes at our situation and shrugged. “Well… let’s have a look see maybe there’s another way out.” They nodded and we walked down the hallway. There was only an automatic double door at the end and it opened when we were close enough to it.

The smell was even stronger in this large room. They were surprised when we saw what this room was and needless to say I was too. There are cages stacked everywhere very neatly; it reminded me of a pet shelter but with much dimmed lights. Some cages were small and they got bigger as you moved down to another section of the room. “This must be a lab for animals or something.” I said to them.

We started to split up looking through some cages and whatnot. I saw what seemed like another room or an extension to the one we were already in. Before I could stop myself my feet were already moving in that direction. It was pretty dark and I couldn’t find a light switch but I did find a computer council instead. It was already on so it wasn’t like I was breaking anymore laws then I already was. I began to read what it was about and the more I read the more a chilling feeling came over my body.

“STAGE ONE OF TWO: Genial Bracelets—distribution in progress.
Immediate DNA fusion—awaiting activation
Time remaining for total human DNA collapse—23hrs
Neohuman Evolutionary Breeds—stage two

I saw the words “DNA Core Display” highlighted and I ran the mouse over it and wanted to press the button. I really wanted to but my breathing became heavier and my body started to tremble. Just what was going on here? Neohumans? Are they serious? Okay, sure, they can create a new world underground but what makes them so confident, or rather, what would make them think that they can just create something to give the name Neohuman!? I don’t like this, not one bit—but calling something Neohuman; wouldn’t an experiment like that need… No, I can’t even think that way. I refuse to allow my brain to even go down that road. I finally developed the courage to click the words “DNA Core Display” and up popped a map of the facility.

I tried to wrap my mind around what I was seeing and thanked God that they have a legend for it. There were little red dots all over the place most in bunches and some are here and there. Finally, I saw three little dots and in my head something told me that those three were us—or rather them. It was only three dots and four of us so there wasn’t anything to make me believe that it meant us. There’s a small box in the lower left corner that states that the red dots are the humans in this facility… with… oh no.

TO BE CONTINUED…
