The River

The level of the river
Rose and rose
Everybody scrambled
Feet and toes.
Firemen rescued canines
And felines
Little Mandy yelled,
"My valentines!"

(2)
Fort Knox

Grandpa and Grandma
Lived in a vineyard
Their grandkids arrived
In a big, long car.
After the hugs, kisses
And news,
Grandpa said, "Not a
Soul with shoes."

Inside the vats
Sans anklets or socks
Everybody stomped
The purplish grapes.
Grandpa cheered,
Played the music box
Grandma yelled, "This is
Worth Fort Knox!"

(3)
Alpha Blocks

"Where are you blocks?
I need a letter."
"We're in the rec room,
Where the light is better.
Where are the kids
Who once played with us?"
"Why, now they're all grown--
Got kids of their own."

(4)

In it she threw
The nose of a gnu.

Or I'm beserk!"

Young Shea went with Cathy
To spend a day and night.

Then both were out
Like a light.

Look great in any bed
And African violets
Nowadays wed!

(7)
Humpty Dumpty(2)

Will I grow old?"
A girl egg sitting
On another wall
Said, "I'm young, too,
Let's both have a ball."

(8)
Kitty Kitty

"Here kitty kitty,"
Called Miss Jones,
"Come and take
Away these bones."
But kitty didn't mind,
She was playing on a log.
Said, "What does she think--
I'm a dog?"

(Later)

"Here kitty kitty,"
Called Miss Jones,
"Let's see if you'd like
half a fish."
Kitty, playing,
Said, "Now she's talking.
I hope it's placed
in a pretty dish."

(9)
The Slow Days of Winter

The slow days of winter
Never seem to end.
Many trees have no leaves.
In summer the days
Are like coin tricks--
The coin's there
'cause you see it;
Then in a flash, it isn't.

(10)
Mommy's Little Chatterbox

Mommy's little chatterbox
Chatters away
Chatters when it's sunny,
Chatters when it's grey.

Runs full speed
Unless it's lunching
Or asleep.

See the world passing by.

Sleet and cold
While focused solely
On April and May.

(14)
Hey Diddle Diddle(3)

I'm stuck in the middle,"

The warm bread laughed,
Cleared its throat,
Said, "Have no fear--
Lunchtime is near."

(15)
Nelson Shriver

Nelson Shriver
And his boys
Sneaked off to buy
Some brand-new toys.

Ready to scold.

Got lost in the mall.

All the livelong day!
