The Chair by Colin Baker (4)
"cool you could take something as mundane as a chair and make a quite interesting read. as for the duke, well something about celebrity isn't there, perhaps more so in the uk than most places (that isn't meant as a mean comment btw)." -- curious.
"Hi again curious and thank you so much for reading and commenting. It was indeed quite an initial task to focus upon a chair but then again it was and still is a chair ( currently housed in Walmer Castle, Kent, South East England) that is significant to my mind as a symbol of cross-cutting class divisions within society in 19th century Britain. The Duke in my view was a representative of a ruling class (hence the play on words about the funeral) and is recorded in history because all ruling elites like to extol the virtues of their own political representatives. I don't think therefore it was so much a matter of being a celebrity if nothing else because such an ideology was not in existence then. He may well be regarded as a kind of postumus one today however, who knows..One thing is certain, he is still regarded as a symbolic figure in English history, but one must always pose the question : 'symbolic to whom' ? Thanks again for reading / commenting Regards, Colin" -- Colin Baker.
"Interesting little piece, although your question has been asked by many and many times as well. The answer as to why one human being's life (and death in this example) should be more important than another's is quite simple. Only intellectual dreamers bored with the realities of life try to make this comparison seem complex. Once again, it's human nature. People (both peasants and elite alike) are interested in the famous and infamous - period. How much do you think the semen-stained dress of Monica Lewinsky would bring on an EBay auction? " -- Richard.
"By the way, you have emulated in this piece, the writings of so many in the past two centuries who have repeatedly said something about nothing, which amounts to nothing about nothing. I suggest you try reading G.K. Chesterson who explains this far better than I can in his book entitled "Heretics."" -- Richard.

Raining Cats And Dogs by Colin Baker (9)
"drop dead funny and clever, might want to invest in a steel umbrella." -- curious.
"Hi again curious and thanks for reading. Your advice is funny, not just in a literal sense, but also because I did originally try to work the concept of an umbrella into the poem, but failed..Hopefully it's none the worse for it though. Happy New Year by the way for 2006 etc...." -- Colin Baker.
"Laughed out loud and nearly coated my screen in Dr Pepper!! Thank you Colin for a truly brilliant poem!!!! Happy New Year!" -- Briony C.
"Hi Briony and thanks for posting your comments. I'm sorry it so nearly cost you a can of Dr. Pepper, it's far too expensive ! lol Happy New Year to your goodself also..And a belated Merry Christmas" -- Colin Baker.
"This was a great piece of work!!I am sorta new to this site and only read a few things but this was by far the best!! I will definitely read some more from you. Do you think you could read my story "Blood of the Battle" " -- Brandon Kinsler.
"Very funny indeed! Most enjoyable." -- Iain Spittles, Cardiff, UK.
"Hi Ian and thanks for commenting. You're not too far from my own part of Wales either. What a small world !" -- Colin Baker.
"A nice diversion from your lengthy, fanatical, boring political dissertations. Although it's fantasy-like, it makes more sense than many of your serious efforts. You may have found your true niche. I suppose you can consider this a complimentary review, even from me. " -- Richard.
"Thank you indeed, Richard...." -- Colin Baker.

"I really like this, and I'm sure I've been there in the past and not even realised, very nicely put (though the rhyming gets a bit lazy as it progresses, which I suppose I shouldn't mention as it doesn't detract from the poem itself, but I have now, so I'll stop before I get off the point which is that I really like it.)." -- Iain Spittles.
"What is ugly...or beauty? I think this was well written with good emotional expression." -- mattie.

Two Birds Of Paradise by Kendall Wilt (4)
"This was cute...would be nice to find such a love" -- mattie.
