QUESTION
Do Pro. Publishers Come Here?
DISCUSSION
I couldn't fit my question of course, but do any professional publishers come to this site? It would kind of be a rip off submitting your work and no one really looks at it. I've found some amazing work and I bet no one would notice. Would you have to advertise it?

RESPONSE
"Not really. If you think your work is good enough,( and I wouldn't rely on my own opinion if I were you) you need to grind it out and submit your work to every source that will actually take the time to read it. This is a self-publishing site which affords minimal legal protection against someone else stealing your material. Most of the stuff posted on this site couldn't get past the fist review of a lowly screener at any legitimate publishing house or magazine publication that accepts amateur offerings. At the first sign of poor grammar or incorrect spelling, their work goes right into the trash can. Like any other business, there are tons of aspiring amateurs and wanna-be's out there. Join the club. " -- Ward Baxter, NY, NY. (2008-10-5)
"How is it a rip off to submit your work and have nobody look at it? Is anyone charging you to submit your work? You kids crack me up. Who the hell said you're entitled to have someone review your work? This is a free, open site (unfortunately)and most of the stuff posted here I wouldn't bother to read, espceially after I see who the author is. It also bugs me to see people beg to have their work reviewed. " -- Richard. (2008-10-8)
"Richard, even though you don't know me, you and I have been here long enough to know that this place used to be different though. I've known about this site since 99 or 2000, and have in fact been a contributor (and still am), and I can look back at some of the work I've submitted and I'm amazed at how much I've grown. But Storymania today has pretty much turned into a desolate wasteland if you're looking for honest feedback. It's a shame, because it didn't always used to be that way. " -- Michael Harris, Detroit, MI. (2008-10-9)
"Yes Michael, I agree with you. There was a time not too long ago when I was far less cynical and usually willing to give constructive reviews. I don't see much of good writing anymore. Mostly a bunch of young kids who post silly lyrics and probably can't read a note of music. They seem to be happy in their own company. Like Lester's farewell posting says, "ignorance is bliss." I guess you could also say misery loves company. " -- Richard. (2008-10-10)
"I'd be interested to know what amazing work you found on this site. Please share this find with us. " -- Ward Baxter. (2008-10-29)
"I do not believe that's a fair assumption. True people's work on here may be rough, mine included, but we are trying. I think everyone deserves a chance to improve." -- emory L griffin, USA. (2009-1-30)
"There was once a time when this site was extremely active - when a few dozen people would critique eachother's work AND new people's work. Something happened. A select few decided that they would continually bash people's submissions creating a rift amongst the "veterans" and, in turn, causing a lot of us to leave. I come back from time to time to post things, do a few reviews and even maybe submit a new piece myself. I've been far too busy in my personal life to write like I used to. The ideas are all in my head and I jot down notes (which are scattered throughout my office). One day I will finish the hundreds of unfinished items laying around. Until then, you new people need to keep writing and keep learning as you go." -- R. Bennett Okerstrom. (2009-2-24)
