Wanning Colors
E Rocco Caldwell

I said I do
At least I did
That day in the church
Near the altar
I recall the green
Of your eyes
The red of your lips

There was such a feeling once
Light
Soft
Warm
It carried a few seasons
Good seasons
I do miss

I sought an interlocutory
Until our flames
Rekindled
They never did rekindle
In her arms
The unclasp of her bra
She is unfettered
As I am

I fear I shall never return
I am far removed from
The splatter of raindrops
On a tin roof
Maybe not raindrops
But definitely
Not the truth

I don't know who to blame
For the dying of our flame
The fade of light
From your eyes
The color of your lips
Waning
Slipping
Your hand away from
Mine
