ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I was born in the Northeast of England in 1953 and I've recently married my fiance in America. I'm an artist favouring realism and a prolific writer of short stories, or novelettes more like. Although I've sold many paintings and drawings, I have never made the attempt to sell any of my written work, until now. My interests are chiefly sedentry although I love the countryside. I would really appreciate some feed back on this story, good or bad. Thank you!

To My Wife On Valentine's Day
Stan A Fowler

There once was a dark cloud that covered all the sky.
It blotted out the sunshine and my life became a lie.
I couldnt see a future, though I didnt realize why.
So I struggled on regardless just trying not to cry!

How are you? All my friendswould stop and say to me.
Weve been thinking, and asking and wondering how youd be.
We waved to you the other week but guessed you didnt see.
We wanted you to know thatIm sure youll agree!

Oh! Youll find somebody else, theyd say, most people often do.
There must be some girl out there, especially for you.
We wouldnt even say that if we didnt think it true.
But I felt they only spoke those words to stop me feeling blue!

Well, I didnt want to know, you see! I couldnt take the pain:
Another bad relationship, no not another lifelong drain.
The thought of what had gone before was driving me insane.
No! Forever be a bachelor, then my freedom Id regain!

I recall I prayed to God one night, as I lay upon my bed.
I focused all my thoughts a-right and this is what I said.
If there is a girl out there somewhere, then she is in my head,
But if shes real then, I do feel; to me she will be led!

I carried on regardlesspretending all was fine.
I tried to plan a course in life yet took it as a sign.
I didnt have the heart, you see, nor did I want to pine.
Some hopes and dreams to cling to and I would make them mine!

The first time that I saw you, you seemed a happy soul.
You smiled a lot with big green eyes, doe-eyed as a foal.
I couldnt wait to see you; seemed like being on parole
Waiting for you to come again and make my evenings whole!

Of course, it was a no-nowellI was married then.
You came over for a holiday and walked into my den.
My local pub on quiz night, I asked the questions when
I made you laugh, apparentlyI wonder if you ken?

The inevitable did happen; my ex and I were through.
The marriage died an awful death and I was feeling blue.
The pain was mine to deal with, at least that much I knew
But, with one thing and another, I didnt have a clue!

What I hadnt considered, nor would I contemplate;
The emotional magnets of either love or hate.
The very things all poets often try to disseminate
Were in our souls, like burning coals, just waiting to create!

Then suddenly it happened, a beam came shining through.
A bright, white star, and from afar, came right out of the blue.
Your light it shone upon my soul and made my spirit new.
The more we talked, the more we shared; our love just simply grew!

The moon came out that very night, its light shone all around.
The comets and the meteors were ultimately abound.
The truth of love had hit me, and that was quite profound,
I walked a path, in aftermath, yet feeling very sound!

Another thing I saw that night - a fireworks display.
Id heard of itand studied itand then I thought, No way!
Youre in another country; thats where you chose to stay.
Its impossible to love you, three thousand miles away!

Alas but I was loston cloud nine or even higher.
To deny my deepest feelings, I would prove to be a liar.
I couldnt get you out my head; my soulit was a-fire
So, for your hand in marriage - I felt I should enquire!

It took you some minutes, about five or ten I guess,
Before you could answer a resounding, great-long Yes!
I mustve read that email a thousand times no less
Dreaming of when Id see you in your wedding dress!

Well, that day came and went and now its history.
We promised in our hearts that together we would be.
I made the trip above the clouds and flew across the sea,
A journey that began for us, our loves eternity!

And now this day has comefor lovers everywhere,
A time to sing out loud; their love they can declare.
A time to hold each others hand and let the people stare
Saying, Oh, how lovely to witness a thing so often rare!

Yeah, some folks think its corny; yet others think its fine
To say the things you want to say and put them all in line.
But I just want to tell youIm yours and you are mine.
Yes! You are my Darlingmy only Valentine!

    I LOVE YOU! XXXOOOxo.
