Thoughts Caught On Paper
Teresa Little

            Little Bird
Did you think you'd be left alone
When the wing you mended
Flew off to the great unknown?
Divine Grace,
Placed in your path one cold and windy day.
Helpless and forlorn,
With gentle hands, you vowed
To Keep her safe and warm.
Love you wanted only in return.
You kept her too long,
This wild bird.
Breaking her spirit
While you feared the lost and unexplored.
Now you watch her
Fly across the night sky.
The song she sings-
Freedom reborn.
You will never know in your sad pity
The life you saved
Also sings for you,
For the love you gave
The lessons learned
And the truth that
We are never truly alone.

               Survivor
When the darkness comes, oblivion.
The silence engulfing,
I try not to scream my rage.
When I crawl inside, dream not the bad.
Just shut my eyes.
Push it out, this hungry pain.
Push them away, these worthless thoughts
kept twisting and turning.
The vultures of my soul,
picking apart my memory, unraveling the old.
Healing me with each layer stripped away.
Tears and rain come wash me clean.
Then turn me to the sun.
Bleach my bones a brittle white.
Leave me under.
A flower hidden amongst the dust, a flower rare,
once trampled and broken,
now filled with seed, ready to bloom.

       Love's Regret
I ache with the longing of love unrequited
yearning
ever yearning for more
those starry eyes
my soul's divide
there is so much more
than can be said
so much more than I can give

            Illusions
Secrets fly under a butterfly's wings,
Caught whispering on the wind,
And rattling in the cattails.
Finally free
Once I cried
Wishing sweet release.
Needing more than a little peace
I left it all behind.
Including my mind
Swept up in the rush,
Denying my secret, hush.
Now for all to see,
What is left of me.
Behind the mask,
Beyond the glass,
Stretched to eternity,
Under silent unity
I am nothing more than an amenity.

 The Passing of the Sovereign
Everything is made to cling,
it is the state of things
You are useless to defend
What you can not mend
It floated down
You lost your crown
The news we hail
While you bail.
Ousted from the throne,
You no longer own.
So forlorn
We'll never mourn
Listen to us cheer
Still you leer
Trapped by time
Deep within your mind
Say goodbye
We wait for you to die.

    The Magic of the Spell
It taunts with an outstretched hand,
prickling the skin,
unseen and unheard.
I feel it there,
Heavy in the air.
Unworldly,
Outside the bounds,
Playing the demon
Amongst mortal fears.
Can not
Flee or fight
What is shielded
From the light.
It dances the rhythm of my frantic heart
And spikes the edges of my hair.
With animated delight
Its jaws I feel
Clamp down on me.
Blackness looms just ahead.
Glimpsed from the corner,
Of another realm
I see
It laughs at me.
The magic of the spell.
