The Summer
Bk Kinsel

The summer she left, I didnt sleep. The fog gently rolled into our fields as I sat on the porch as if I were collecting its ticket stubs. The mosquito infested light would flicker on and off as I stroked the steel of my guitar strings and hummed the words of slumberous love songs. The Jeff Buckley lyrics that would keep my head from nodding off and my brain from thinking of something else. Cars would drive by at the three in the morning and only stare. The gnarred old porch was my palace and this wicker rocking chair was my throne. As it squeaked through the humid summer air, it lifted my mind and smashed my devotion. She wasnt their, and I wished she was. I wished she would be sitting next to me, dangling her legs, tapping her fingers, holding her head. I wish she was sleepless with me. We would be together, and we would be happy. But the summer she left, I was alone, and I didnt sleep.
