Progressive Silence
R Bennett Okerstrom

Progressive silence surrounds me,
Building up around your fate.
Still, hesitation to put it all behind you.
White noise drowns out my plea.

No need for senseless violence.
No need for countless shame.
If you are wet,
Then you do not fear the rain.

Invisible lightning with silent thunder,
Shadow all your doubt.
Cries for help echo through dimlit hallways,
But fall on the deaf ears of those who fail to listen.

Intrusion from within.
Closure from afar.
Starting over never works.

Progressive silence through the din.
Are you there?
Can you hear me?

No answer.
