A Simple Man.

Ikabod Dante Bondone was a simple man. He lived with his yellow and green Budgie �The General� in a tiny flat in Devon England. Despite being the fourth largest county with a very large population Ikabod didn�t have many friends, but he secretly preferred it that way. People could be a nuisance and they have a habit of interrupting other people. Ikabod saw his best second best friend Geoff every Tuesday evening and also Saturday mornings. On Tuesday Ikabod would walk the 422 steps down the road to Geoff�s flat and watch him chain smoke, play his Banjo and drink too much Whiskey. Ikabod would leave once Geoff fell into a drunken slumber in his armchair. The Saturday meet was more Ikabods cup of tea. They�d go their favourite caf� that was right next door to the library. They�d have a bacon and egg breakfast, well Geoff would, Ikabod just had eggs. Then Ikabod would say goodbye and go into the library where he would spend hours reading. He read anything and everything. He was there so often he was offered a job by Miss Trimble, but she reminded him of Winston Churchill, so he declined. He did however donate a painting he had done in his college years. It was of a giant elephant and upon it�s back was a large crate full of books. The elephant was standing on top of a mountain with a storm raging all around it. The library accepted the gift and it stood pride of place right in the entrance foyer. Ikabod couldn�t help but feel a little pride. When he�d painted it back at school his teacher had laughed at it.
Ikabod Dante Bondone was a simple man. He worked at the tourist information desk on Carnegie road three days a week. He enjoyed the job because he got to meet all different people from all over the world. He could speak Spanish and French but not very well. Ikabod liked everyone apart from the man in the large grey tower at the end of his road. Ikabod avoided the tower.
Ikabod Dante Bondone was a simple man. He always wore the same outfit when he went out and about, grey tweed jacket, white shirt, black braces, grey trousers and his brown leather satchel that his Grandfather had given him. When he was at home he liked to only wear the trousers and shirt.
Ikabod Dante Bondone was a simple man. He had been in love only once. He was nine at the time and Lilly Cochrane was thirteen. He only ever said one thing to her but she had smiled. One morning he had seen her by the pond in the centre of town crying. H plucked up the courage and went over to her. �Did you know you share your sir name with one of the best musicians ever? Eddie Cochrane.� He had said in a rather shaky voice. Lilly wiped her tears away and smiled at him sweetly. Then Ikabod had blushed and run away. Lilly Cochrane and her father left for Ireland a few days later and he never saw her again.
Ikabod Dante Bondone was a simple man. He was never lonely, hungry, never angry, always polite and respectful. He loved the world and everything in it apart from the man in the grey tower.
