A Perfected Perpetuation Plan For Today's Young Yahoos
Randall Barfield

We just want
what's best for you, my
dear. This "what" is
much like us, your
parents. You see, the
uncertainty, the lack
of guarantees are simply
too unbearable so,
to be truthful, heart,
we, your father and I,
don't SERIOUSLY
encourage a career
in the fine or liberal
arts nor your unbridled
love of music or any
of the other fanciful,
for-the-most-part low-paying
ideas that stealthily
slip into one ear but
almost always fail
to exit via the other.
You need your good,
dependable little husband/
wife, one or two reliable
little cars, SUVs or
whatever nowadays--
most families have 2,
don't they? Oh, families!
I nearly forgot. Yes,
you need the little couple
of kids, preferably one
of each sex, but they can
be the same sex if that's
the way it finally must
be. Although TOTAL CONTROL
is what we, your caring
parents, strive for, we
must be realistic at times
and realize that one simply
cannot(unfortunately) con-
trol every single aspect
of another person's life.
Now, you've got your nice,
coveted college degree so
some little not-too-unman-
ageable job or position,
preferably, lies up the
road for you once the kids
(my very own grandchildren!)
are safe and snug in some
preschool or whatever. My!
Do I see a slight frown
on your face or is it just
imagination? You might try
showing us a little grati-
tude for once in your very
very lucky life! Why, when
we were your age we never-
ever imagined living on such
a grand scale as do you
youngsters today. I dis-
tinctly recall--I don't
think I've told you this
yet...
